PICSPAM PART 2! )

They could've been together. It could've worked (it also could've been weird and fraught, but that's part of the appeal). It did work in one AU, at least for awhile. Heck, it worked well enough that Martouf stayed on Earth, even after they parted. They're just both so sweet and smart, and they have a lot in common. They deserve to be happy together in at least ONE universe!

Plus their kids would have the most freakin' beautiful blue eyes on the entire planet. And I don't need any better reason than that. :)

THE END.
This was intended to be meta for [livejournal.com profile] redial_the_gate but I'm not with it enough for thinky meta. Instead, have a PICSPAM with a bit of snarky commentary, because that's what I do.

A LOVE AFFAIR ACROSS TIME AND SPACE!!! a history in pictures

Please note, this is heavily image intensive. May break your page layout therefore, have a FORMAT LIGHT link.

(all caps by me. I have a lot more where this came from, believe me. *pets her precious little ship*)

Once upon a time... )

Darting online...

Busy, busy days, people. I can't wait until I get my normal life back next week and the Short Person's vacation is OVER! Can NOT wait.

In other news, I've been making way too many screencaps for my Sam/Martouf Ship of DOOOOM picspam of shippiness. It's too bad I think Martouf is hot, I'd have a lot fewer images. But OMG, that orange lighting on Netu makes him (well, everyone, really) so yummy.

And of course my timing is so fabulous that I'll finish it tonight just in time for Content Strike 08. yay me. *sigh* Well, I'm still gonna post it since it's already late - people participating can look at it over the weekend if they like. (personally I find the strike kind of pointless, particularly when it's a holiday, but whatever floats your boat).

Anyway, I'd love to say more but I have restless short person who wants to run around some more now that he took his "rest". I won't be online tomorrow because RL is kicking my ass!

My recap for [livejournal.com profile] redial_the_gate is HERE . There are rhyming couplets!

Clearly I was way too tired last night :)

Just wait until I do my Sam/Martouf SHIP OF DOOOOOOOMM! meta in a few days. I'd love to do it seriously, since it's one of my actual ships, but I think I'm too tired to actually think about it. Maybe if I promise myself I'll do a real meta on it later....

I grabbed my BSG S.3 DVDs this morning, haven't even taken the plastic off yet.

And my JONAS QUINN action figure arrived, WOOT! It actually looks like Corin, so yay for decent likenesses.

One of these days when it's not "vacation", I'll have to do some sort of action figure theater with all my guys.

Finally sat down and watched the DVD (after buying it Tuesday). I've been very diligent about avoiding other reactions and comments, so I went into the movie not knowing anything more about it than the back of the box more or less. AND YAY!

Spoilers ho! )

In short.... SQUEEEEEEEE!

I'd watch it again, but I need to write my Sam/Martouf Ship Manifesto for next week, and then I've got to rewatch BSG before April 4, so AoT is going to be pushed back. But I want to watch it again, and I sure can't say that about all the episodes.

Well, I think I got schooled in what people want me to write next. *eyes flist warily* But thank you for playing.

Of course, the truly first priority thing I need to write is write the "Tok'ra Part One" recap for [livejournal.com profile] redial_the_gate for next week. But recaps are always so much fun, even if this one's not quite as snark-worthy as "Bloodlines" was. Martouf! *squishes him and his FUNNY HAT* (honestly, isn't he lucky Sam looked at him again after the tragic fashion faux pas of the hat?)

See, recaps pretty much write themselves.

Unfortunately prompts for [livejournal.com profile] sg_rarepairings comment-a-thon aren't writing themselves. I can only think of a few random words at a time apparently. But go forth and add prompts - you don't have to be a member of the comm or intend to write. Ship or friendship/gen are okay. They just can't be Weir/Shep, McShep, Daniel/Jack, or Jack/Sam or crossovers. Who knows, maybe someone will be inspired by your random request for Anise/Mitchell.

I probably won't write any of the prompts, any more than I wrote anything for LeapGate (comment!fic is hard for me, people), but ... someone should!

Monday SG-1: Summit and Last Stand are part of the daytime block. Man, I love those eps. Love Osiris. LOVE her outfit. Love Baal. Love Daniel and Jacob and the "Uh oh, change of plan" conversations they have through the whole thing. Aldwin and his earnest boringness, and Jack's avoidance of both to hang with Teal'c. Plus, there is shooting, and shit blowing up, and noble sacrifices and poor Sam getting her heart stomped on a little more. And big giant Jaffa armies (one of the few times we actually SEE how freakin' impressive the Goa'uld can be, come to think of it).

Plus, in some alternate reality JR Bourne was available and MARTOUF CAME BACK!!!! (why couldn't it be the reality I live in though? *sigh*)

---

Lest I forget, there was Atlantis tonight. (still haven't watched 'Harmony' but I did want to make an extra special effort for "based on a story concept by Joe Flanigan", after hearing him bitch about the Canadian writer's guild over it, I gather he's lucky to get credit at all, even a lukewarm one like that).

spoilers )

And it's not Stargate but OMG I need to work on my Shagathon fic... It's freakin' FEBRUARY already and I have nothing.

Oh my... this turned out... long. But it's the whole thing.

I attended the BSG/Stargate Creation Con in Burbank again last weekend, Nov 16 -18. This year was especially awesome, since I got to meet [livejournal.com profile] lyssie, [livejournal.com profile] sabaceanbabe, [livejournal.com profile] lucyparavel, [livejournal.com profile] greycoupon, [livejournal.com profile] mamaboolj, [livejournal.com profile] ebneter, and mrsMayorofDogsville from Kindreds. And some others whose fannish nicknames I didn't get.

You are all even more awesome in person. Just so's you know. :)

And as always my pictures are crap because I don't have enough zoom and the ballroom lighting is orange. My photoshop skillz are not great, but I tried to make the actors at least recognizable. There are only a handful, so not too many to suffer through. (you can find someone else's better pics when you're done)

My adventure begins...

general BSG production news )

Saturday )

Sunday )

the end.

For those few on my flist who aren't on the [livejournal.com profile] sg_rarepairings list and want to read what I spent the last month flailing about, here's the link to my fic:

A Moment Along the Way
Sam Carter/Evan Lorne, ADULT
4200 words
Carter and Lorne meet again on the Apollo, but Evan is not quite the man Sam remembers.
Spoilers through SGA 4x03, and especially SG-1 "The Road Not Taken".

- - -

I have no Lorne - Kavan Smith icon. This is really wrong.

I'm still fiddling around with the really terrible photos from the con and trying to finish the report before I forget everything. It sucks so much to have had so much of it done and have to rewrite it. *grumps*

I need more wine.

My main fannish contribution for the day is my Recap for Bloodlines over at [livejournal.com profile] redial_the_gate. I am just a wee bit snarky.

I'm feeling ranty about some comments (particularly at TWOP) on this week's Heroes.

Kinda spoilery, but more ranty )

I'm perhaps more annoyed than I should be, but I had the builders highpressure spraying the house to remove the old paint and it was really loud and then water came in under the door. But I didn't notice at first, so there was a good sized puddle that got the carpet wet. And... it was no fun.

But, the BSG Season 4 promo is MADE OF WIN! yes. And so creepy in how the implications are all layered in, though probably not as they'll happen.

Tired. But home!

Ack, so much to catch up on! Still haven't seen SGA 402, though I have it and I know what happens. But more on that later when I'm not tired.

Has google turned Japanese for everyone or is it just me? I keep getting redirected to Google-Japan. Very strange.

I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide last night, and I'm going to have to do it all again. Might want to check that the characters highlighted are the ones you actually WANT, doofus. That'll teach me to do the list when I'm trying to pack up all the CRAP we collected on vacation and shove it into our bags.... But a redo'll give me the opportunity to rethink one of my offers, which was for ANY characters and is really very... terrifying. Still, I suppose if one wants to write only in a comfort zone, yuletide is probably not the best choice of ficathons. So, I don't know. Maybe I'll be brave (and then pray I don't match to it...)

But I'm glad to see some requests and offers for Amelia Peabody fic ([livejournal.com profile] mamaboolj take note!). I'm not, this year, but I hope someone will write another one.

Otherwise I did not much fannish at all on my trip. Except I rewatched SG1 Talion )

Ok, so it's possibly strange the picky stuff I complain about...

Going to bed now, before I start complaining about something even more inane.

( Oct. 4th, 2007 03:02 pm)
I finally figured out a story idea for my [livejournal.com profile] sg_rarepairings exchange fic. YAY! I know there are some people who are already finished I hate you, but I couldn't even decide which prompt to pick. I had too many choices and couldn't figure out what to do.

But yesterday I was thinking about one of the prompts and realized that I could use a world I created for an unfinished fic and some backstory out of my Asheron series (some of the general politics like Ishtar and the rise of Baal and things like that), and from all that, I knew how to get the pairing to work. In theory. It required some research today as well, to find a good name. (Knowingly lumping Mesopotamian deities together is better than doing it in ignorance, right? *g*) The fic might be long - but it should go quickly once I start.

I hope.

I have to finish my [livejournal.com profile] reel_sg1 fic first though... I think I'm going to have to dump part of it. I had written some of this idea a long time ago, and most of what I thought I could use, doesn't work in actual canon anymore. Anubis - messing with my fic even after he's gone. gah. I hate it when that happens.

1. It's impossible to write horror while listening to Snow (hey oh) by the Chili Peppers. SG-1 keeps wanting to break into song and join in the chorus, and that's just a teeny-bit of a mood breaker.

2. Careless googling up a bear costume for my kid leads to some VERY SCARY PLACES. trauma, people. (and if you don't get why, I'm not explaining it to you...)

3. I did three episodes of my Baal Rewatch (woo hoo!) last week before costuming took over my fannish brain. Comments later. But in brief: Baal is hot, I love the S5 team, and I will never be able to watch Summit/Last Stand without rewriting it in my head with Martouf alive at the end (as it should've been OMG).

4. The tunic for my C-Bucs costume arrived today!!!! I had to order two sizes up, but it's not as huge as I feared. I'm not small, but I'm not exactly Trucco-sized either. I thought I might have to take it apart and cut it down to fit, but I'll be able to take it in, if it won't shrink. I don't need it to be as tight on me as it is on him anyway.
Since this has been going around again...

I was WAY overthinking this, until I figured out it's just an excuse to post pretty pictures. (and I still have a problem picking the married ones... I'm such a dork)

(1) List 5 celebrities you would have sex with without even asking questions.
(2) Put all of them IN ORDER of your lust for them. You made me pick only five and now I have to put them in order? HAH!
(3) Say which movie/show/thing it was that hooked you.
(4) Supply photos for said people.
(5) Tag five people. everyone should do it and raise the hotness level of lj some more!

meme, schmeem. It's a picspam. It breaks my layout so here's the meme in light format. And if you're on dial-up, you probably shouldn't even try, sorry.

Follow the pretty lemmings )
okay, I need a planet (for a fic, duh). Before I go looking through ep lists and trying to come up with one, I thought I'd throw it out for other people's ideas. Here's the criteria:

1. It has to be a friendly planet to Earth. Or at least some segment of it friendly enough that Jack would authorize a mission to help them if they 'call' with a plea for help.

2. Thus the planet/settlement needs to be able to contact the SGC with that plea. (i.e. throwing a Sagan box through isn't going to work - a bit more tech advanced than Land of Light or Touchstone-planet)

3. the Stargate needs to be outside, and some distance - at least a good walk - away from the nearest settlement. Something like Cimmeria, but NOT Cimmeria because the Hammer messes things up.

4. Pangar and various Jaffa planets also won't work for story reasons.

5. The planet first appears before season 8.

I'm sure there are plenty that fit this criteria, but I'm drawing a blank. And obviously I can make one up, but I'd rather use a canon one.

Observations--

First: there were soundtracks for the t.v. series 'Whistler'. WTF? This Canadian show, to my knowledge, has only been shown here in the US on some obscure cable channel once (and I discovered it was shown at all too late.) I only know about it because I wanted to know what Ingrid Kavelaars was doing lately, and discovered it's chock full of other actors I like, like Nicholas Lea. (so if anyone has it and would like to share? I'd love you) It's not on DVD here. So WHY is there a soundtrack? Or, more to the point, why were there FOUR COPIES of the soundtrack for a t.v. show that maybe a handful of people in the whole CITY have seen? *blink blink*

Second: I did not realize that Robin of Sherwood has finally been released on DVD here. WOOT! When I was in the UK many years ago, I bought it, tragically not understanding the difference between Region 1 and Region 2. So I'm all excited to see it, for I have many fond memories. (and it will probably not hold up under my rosy glow of nostalgia, but I'm going to watch anyway).

Third: the anime section is going to take over all DVD soon. It used to be one group of shelves next to the sci-fi, now it's an entire row all by itself. (I saw Appleseed, btw; interesting, but I'm glad I waited til cable)

Fourth: I'm still irritated every time I see the SG-1 slimpaks that we can't exchange the packaging. I would gladly ship all my giant boxes to MGM and get the slimpaks instead -- I have the discs for the first eight seasons in a case right now (and the packaging taking up vital action figure space in the garage). Functional but not very pretty. Stupid MGM.

It's Stargate Fanawards time. Which, hell, I'll be honest -- it's always exciting to be nominated. So YAY!

I'm especially stunned by the nomination for "A Strange Alien Allure", my wee pinch-hit Jonas/Cameron fic. I had no idea anyone even remembered it, so thank you, mystery nominator. (nominator? that doesn't look right...) I know which corner of fandom the rest of the noms originated in, so *smooch* to my Tok'ra peeps, even if we are totally gonna get buried again this year.

The totally-out-of-left-field nomination encourages me to sign up for the rarepair ficathon again, but... no. I will restrain myself. Ficathons are fun, but I only have so much time to write and I have projects I've been sitting on for more than a year that I need to finish.

Must. Be. Responsible.

and completely random, I just saw the ad for upcoming show "Big Shots." The show looks iffy, but Michael Vartan is still hot.

The Fourth of July
by [livejournal.com profile] lizardbeth_j

Characters: Sam, Cassie
Rated PG, Gen
Wordcount: ~ 3000
Summary: There used to be picnics and fireworks to celebrate freedom. Not anymore.

Note: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] apocalypse_kree ficathon. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] selmak for the beta. And yeah, I know "Ba'al" is the preferred canon spelling; it's a quirk of mine.

The Fourth of July )
mmm, The Prestige was on last night. I do love that movie. Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale can do no wrong. And Hugh Jackman is nothing to sneeze at either.

But last night something Stargate -ish occurred to me while watching David Bowie. You see, it's actually true that Nikola Tesla was based in Colorado Springs in 1899 and performed energy and atmospheric experiments there, creating lightning and electrical conduction and all sorts of things. While there, he also claimed to have received extra-terrestrial signals. And later in life, he claimed that the theory of relativity was fundamentally flawed, as well - perhaps he was the only Tau'ri who was not "very young"...

Is this an SG-1 travels-through-time fanfic or what?

Unfortunately my knowledge of physics and electrical engineering isn't up to the task, but it would be awesome. Because Sam would totally fangirl him, you know she would. She'd be going on and on about all the stuff he invented and the rest of the team would be all, huh? But he would help them find a way home in return for a glimpse of 'the future'.

*sigh* Should've been an episode, PTB. You missed your chance.

bah, 2200 words on my [livejournal.com profile] apocalypse_kree fic, total. And the country's not conquered yet, to say nothing of the whole world. And what I have isn't exactly deathless prose. But I have already killed a secondary character, brainwashed another, 'disappeared' a fan favorite, and am set to arrest another, which looks tremendously exciting when I write it out like that. But it all feels very...plodding to me right now.

I think I'm going to do a Baal marathon and see if that kick starts my rather sullen and pouty muse. If that doesn't help, nothing will, and I'll have to scale back on my plan.

And then I'll have to figure out whether I'm going to use Baal or Ba'al. I know the latter is more canonical, but it makes me grit my teeth. That stupid unnecessary NEEDLESS APOSTROPHE makes for awkward looking possessives! Bad enough I have to write Teal'c's (and avoid it wherever possible), I don't want to write Ba'al's as well. It just looks so stupid and wrong to me.

Whoever thought up the idea that flinging apostrophes into names to make them look more 'alien' needs a good thwacking. Except he's probably already dead, since it's a very old SF thing, but still. Baal.
