redial_the_gate but I'm not with it enough for thinky meta. Instead, have a PICSPAM with a bit of snarky commentary, because that's what I do.
A LOVE AFFAIR ACROSS TIME AND SPACE!!! a history in pictures

It begins with Jolinar, a Tok'ra operative who ran into trouble with a Goa'uld, got pursued by an ashrak, and eventually died protecting our heroine, Sam. Sam, dressed as Jolinar, looked like this:
Sam has this vision of Jolinar and wants to find the Tok'ra. Perhaps she thinks she's looking for allies, but really her memories and feelings left over fromr Jolinar (and Rosha, too - Jolinar's host) want her to find their mate/lover, Martouf and his symbiote Lantash, who only speaks every once in a while. Jolinar/Rosha/Martouf/Lantash = OT4, but with fewer limbs to write, but far more pronoun confusion.
Sam first meets Martouf when he's looking like this:
And we will say politely that Martouf is VERY lucky Sam gave him the time of day after the hat fiasco. Especially when she was lookin' MIGHTY FINE:
It's no wonder Martouf was instantly smitten. More so when he finds out that his beloved is dead, but Sam is carrying around, not just her memories but her feelings as well. This apparently is something very rare because he seems surprised that Sam should be feeling these things. But he's curious and he pulls that old, "Let's see what we can find out if we hold hands" trick:
awww... first touching. Look at that. Daniel interrupts and they drop hands like kids with their paws in the cookie jar and hurry off to find out what's going on.
So, a bit later, Martouf is amused by Jacob's quips to Selmak. And see, he's smart, playing to his hopeful future father in law.
And then he stays with Sam and holds her hand again as they wait for Jacob and Selmak to finish blending:
then AGAIN with the interruption, this time from their various bosses. oops.
But he stays with Sam and Jacob to make sure they're safe. He risks his own life to help Sam and Jacob, who are really virtually strangers to him. They race across the sand to the gate and through just in time, to the SGC. Where the Tok'ra must be on their way, and Sam watches them leave very sadly.
AND YET, all is not lost, for Martouf returns in Serpent'sLair Song (the one when Apophis comes to the SGC), with some Tokk'ra flunkies (for now he has flunkies of his own; apparently dating Selmak's daughter is helping him move up). Sam is happy to see him again.
Yet she discovers her boyfriend has a bit of an edge to him, when he really couldn't care less about helping Apophis and thinks the SGC should hand his ass over to Sokar. The edge? Makes Sam really hot, because she likes dangerous men, oh yes. Unfortunately I have no pictorial proof of thisbecause the PTB are big meanies.
Note how, after Teal'c puts Apophis' body through to Sokar, she has to hold onto her arm to keep from touching him right there in public? uh huh. and see how they're standing close together?
At the end, Martouf has to leave on Very Important Tok'ra businsess, BUT he gives Sam his phonenumber so she can call him anytime.
And in a display of approval from Sam's boss, Jack gives Martuof his own GDO so he can come and go from the SGC whenever he wantsto see his girlfriend.
Sam and Martouf say goodbye, and the episode ends before we see them kiss goodbye. DAMN IT.
When next we see our hero, in Jolinar's Memories, notice the differing reactions to seeing who's come to visit. Sam's not disappointed at all that it's not her dad (whereas Jack? not overwhelmed with joy).
Martouf's come to deliver some bad news: Jacob's been captured by Sokar, and only Jolinar ever managed to escape from Sokar's prison of Netu. He hopes with the help of Jolinar's memories which Sam is carrying stilll, they can all free Jacob.
He is very comforting with Sam, encouraging her that they'll help Jacob escape and that she can do it. And takes her hand again.
And so they head on over to the tel'tak and take off.
