lizardbeth: (Avengers - Loki-Frigga)
( Sep. 22nd, 2012 01:35 pm)
I think I'm going to call it.

Understanding the Storm 3: Poison Rain
Final tally: 33,831 words.

I was going to say it's the longest story I've ever written that has no weapons in it, but that's not quite true. Yeah I'm not ever going to be one of those people who write the thinky novels where there's no violence apparently. heh.

Now to that evil part of the story, trying to write a summary.... Tomorrow final edits, chapter divisions, and LAUNCH. :)

Onward to finish up Black Sails, write my Avengers-crossover-bb and Avengersfest fics.

Anyone available and want to beta my Loki, Frigga, generally Asgardian family shenanigans fic? It comes with the caveat that it follows directly on Understanding the Storm, so you have to have read that already and also this one is much longer.

But this means I'm done with the draft! Understanding the Storm 3: Poison Rain is ready for the next step. 35,000 words of messed up family dyamics, talking, and a mom being pretty fucking awesome (though Thor is pretty useful this time, too).

Sarah Shahi was on KROQ this morning, mostly to talk about her Maxim cover and to be kind of a crack up, but she did talk a bit about Fairly Legal spoilers? of a particularly vague sort )

I spent an inordinate time on Suri's Burn Book tumblr last night, after someone mentioned it in the Yuletide post. OMG and yet, hee. Fic for that could be spectacular.

Meanwhile I've also been trying to finish up UtS3 and besides the fact that none of them will SHUT UP, Odin was also being a particular pain the ass today. Dude, you have no call to be... right about things. Stop it. And stop messing up the last third of the story.
Fandom: Avengers
Rating: PG
Characters/Pairing: Clint/Natasha, brief appearance by Darcy, mention of everyone else. But mostly this is OC!Future!Black!Hawk!Tween.
Wordcount: 3400.

Summary: Career Day when your parents are Avengers can be tricky.

Note: For the [livejournal.com profile] be_compromised promptathon. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] intrikate88 who beta'd this really ridiculous fic into actual readability.

I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] avengers_xbb Avengers crossover big bang ,which is really a minibang of 5K minimum so it's not that terrible if anyone else is interested in signing up. Author signups close tomorrow (also they could use artists for anyone with those inclinations though those signups go on longer).

I intend to use it for my Avengers/Person of Interest idea. Reese joins SHIELD. Spy shenanigans with Natasha and Clint and Fury and Coulson and Maria, for sure. heh. looking forward to going back to it.

After I finished that NPT ficathon story in a panic stricken haze, I went back to some WIPS, and so I've been working on Understanding the Storm 3. And now suddenly Odin and Frigga are hashing out about how they are really kind of terrible parents (think about it - Loki aside, it takes Odin A THOUSAND YEARS to figure out that Thor's a bit reckless). But this also makes Thor upset that Mommy and Daddy are fighting and it's adorable. He's such a puppy sometimes.

I was trying to finish you off, story, and this is making it worse! But once the elephant's in the room, wise people deal with it and they are supposed to be wise people. So, the end result is... *makes hand motion of someone blabbing on and on*

This may be the longest story I've ever written where there's no action or romance element to move the plot along. There's no guns, no sex. Lots of words, lots of talking - I'm sure I'll have to tighten it up at the end so it's not puppet theater, but I just hope I can do it well enough that readers can tell there is a direction/plot to it all, even if it is just four people talking and trying to deal with their crap. Well, mostly Loki's crap, but theirs too. It builds up when you're immortal!

But I do have to get it done given that (a) I have another story after that, and (b) the whole series is gonna get jossed to hell by Thor 2.

It is entirely probable that watching this (part 2 of BBC's The Hollow Crown Shakespeare adaptations) is NOT GOOD for my Loki fixation because JFC, Hiddleston. (and Jeremy Irons and some other people, but really, if I'm being honest, Hiddleston as Hal is the only reason I'm watching it). Cracks me up when they're talking about being anonymous, cuz Prince Hal is a giant and not likely to be anonymous ANYWHERE, lol. But it's really well done - though I wish they'd brighten the color palette a bit - and I'm looking forward to the others. I can't remember what happens in part 2, though I did actually read the Henry plays a few decades ago. Watching it is also really good for working on Understanding the Storm, because his inflections are the same (the first half he's basically Loki), and the language of course is inspiring. (I had great dialogue in mind last night that I stupidly didn't write down. D'oh!)

It's going to be an interesting thing when we get to Henry V though, because the Kenneth Branagh movie is pretty much my most favorite adaptation of all time. I have the Belgian one-sheet framed, the soundtrack is among the greatest ever (Patrick Doyle's first, which is just ASTONISHING), and the best memories of driving a hundred miles with my BFF to go see it in the only theater showing it in all of New Mexico and then nearly dying on the way home in a sudden hailstorm. So, y'know, irregardless of the movie's actual quality, which is good, I have a great nostalgic love for it. I hope both adaptations will live side-by-side in my fannish glee, not conflict.

I will forever love the story that on Chris Hemsworth's first day as Thor, Branagh told him to memorize the band of brothers speech from Henry V to deliver it the next day. And he basically stared in horror. Because no, that's not intimidating AT ALL. <3 <3

THOR 2 will be sadly Branagh-less, though he's listed as a producer, so maybe not uninvolved, and I have hopes for Alan Taylor who directs a lot of HBO shows, including GoT. Whatever, I'm still gonna watch the hell out of it (even though it's gonna joss Understanding the Storm horribly, I'm sure). Iron Man 3 can sit down in the corner and wait.

Meshing two timelines in a crossover is always problematic, but man, especially Avengers/Marvel movies stuff. That timeline is TIGHT, y'all. I think I can set the fic in the gap pre-Avengers, which on the one hand will give me even more to talk about than I thought before I realized some of the films overlap, but on the other hand, creates a problem with anyone in his right mind being skeptical when Iron Man is already public and Hulk Smash New York. But the best part is that I wrote about 2K of this PoI/Av fic yesterday. It's pretty fun.

Speaking of comic book movies, I was reading an article about the theoretical Justice League movie and Green Lantern especially. It's really sad when you watch Green Lantern because it's so frakking obvious that a committee was involved. You can tell that every few minutes some idiot DC/WB exec gave a stupid note about wanting more action or more villains or more everything, and left it a horrible convoluted mess to please no one. It's sad because a live-action Green Lantern could be really awesome (outer space! lots of cool aliens!) and there're bits of it that suggest there's a decent movie in there someplace if they'd let it. *sigh* I do not envy anyone writing the Justice League movie that's for sure.
I had a great visit with [livejournal.com profile] lucyparavel who came to San Diego for RL family things but at least we got to hang out for a little while. That is the best. :)

Sideshow collectibles released the preorder info for the 1/6 Scale Black Widow . Awesome. I know I don't need more random crap taking up space in my garage, but... those are really great figures. I gave the Dark Knight Batman to MrLiz for holiday last year and it is AMAZING w all the detail.

In writing news, I have about 23K of 'Understanding the Storm 2' (though part of that really belongs in a sequel), about 5K of Clint/Natasha shenanigans, 3K of Reese-joins-the-Avengers, and 110K words of Black Sails. And none of them are done. ARRRGHGHHHGHG. I got two guilt-inducing emails yesterday, too. :(

Fairly Legal finale tmrw and Trucco will (finally) be doing the Character Chatter thing on USA. I think it's an unfortunate choice of episode for him, but at least he's doing it. I still don't know if I want S3 of that show - it's nice he's employed and consistently on t.v., but my goodness, I wish it was a better show. Maybe they could cut him loose from FL and he could go to Suits and be hot with Gina Torres. *sigh*
Pairing: Clint/Natasha
Rating: PG
wc: ~1K
Summary: Natasha waits for him to wake up

Note: Written for the Kissing Meme, [livejournal.com profile] karate0kat and [livejournal.com profile] rose_griffes have to share. :)

Hope is for Children )
Dear Asgard Family Shenanigans story, you aren't supposed to be doing this. You were supposed to be a nice short sequel and then I could get back to badass spies, and instead you've become this heart-wrenching epic. Stupid families with your stupid faces.

In news not entirely unrelated I now possess (okay, kiddo possesses) the Quinjet Lego playset which comes with Thor, Loki, Ironman, and Black Widow! It is awesome. You know I have Avengers Fever when I didn't even notice that the lego store had LOTR legos until kiddo dragged me the second time through, and yet I'd already figured out that Loki is in three of the four playsets, but the Quinjet one was the only one with Natasha and Thor and therefore the one we would be getting, despite the tragic lack of Hawkeye. *sigh*

I should do Action Figure Theater again. heh.
Sunday we went to the Dodgers game. It was Little League day, so the kids in their uniforms got to parade around the field. It was very cute. Also saw the Dodgers win - apparently we brought good luck, since all the rest of the Los Angeles teams lost on the weekend (though the Kings just clinched a spot for the Stanley Cup, which has been forever so that's exciting, especially when the Lakers suck). I'm kind of glad we have a break for Memorial Day though, before heading back to LL for another two weeks. It's killing my back sitting on those benches.

list of my other fannish doings:
1. My cranky-ish review of Fairly Legal, last friday. So many cranky words I held back.

2. Nikita finale review . much more YAYAYAYAY

3. "I know where the dead ends are", a fun little BSG/Terminator x-over fic I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] 13th_tribe. (and sorry if you see the crosspost several times, I'm trying to spread them out a bit since ppl aren't around as much.)

4. I just bought a Loki T-Shirt and a Shield hoodie. CURSE YOU HIDDLESTON. I was doing okay until I saw that photo AGAIN and then my brain went into some kind of spasm and I had to go look at the store. I DO WHAT I WANT.

5. Had a chance to watch a couple of pilots. I have to write them up so I'll link with more detail, but I liked Longmire a lot. It isn't heavily Katee in the pilot, just FYI. So if you're watching only for her, it's not gonna be for you. I'm sure a lot of people will be put off by the pace (and I fear that commercials are going to ruin it), but it has a really great moodiness to it.

Also watched Arrow and Beauty and the Beast -- I think they both have potential, though they're both starting out at a pretty derivative place. Not just because they're off other properties but Arrow is the offspring of Smallville and Batman Begins, and Beauty and the Beast is basically Person of Interest, but from what would be Carter's pov (Kristen Kreuk is not the actress Taraji Henson is, but she's better than she used to be, and if they give her better dialogue that'll help). Anyway, I will totally end up writing crossovers, because, duh.

6. also I am not receiving comments, though luckily I can at least get my own in the LJ inbox. If you've replied to me anywhere else, though, I haven't seen it. I'm not ignoring you, I just don't know. :( Anything you want a response to, make sure to drop me a link or copy it here or something while this is messed up. Thanks.
Here's a link for my write-up on the Criminal Minds finale, with Tricia Helfer being fabulously evil. Here.

I finally watched Iron Man 2 for the Natasha-ness of it all. Favorite scene is definitely her strike on Hammer Ind. I don't think the movie as a whole was all that much, tbh. Natasha, Fury, Coulson were the best parts. Thinking about going to Avengers tomorrow.

Naturally (this is me, after all) my Clint/Natasha story is growing out of its little seed. I really should finish "Understanding the Storm, part 2" though, first. and also BSG Fic. argh. why must shiny things be so shiny and distracting?
So I came up with this BSG/Avengers fusion verse of much funness --

Kara -- Natasha (Obvs)
Sam -- Hawkeye
Tigh --- Fury (c'mon, that's a gimme)
Lee -- Cap
Baltar - Iron Man (you have to imagine a bit more outright heroism in Gaius, but the wealthy genius skirt-chaser part was easy)
Caprica -- Pepper
Gaeta -- Banner (cuz the mutiny was kind of Gaeta's big green rage monster moment, y/y? Plus all Tony/Bruce shippers get to sail merrily along undisturbed, lol)
Dee -- Coulson (on the theory that Dee and Coulson have similar 'voice that brings them home' roles.)
Helo -- Thor

I thought of Sam at Thor, because it brings in the from-another-Earth thing, plus Leoben could be Loki, as Lyssie pointed out. But then Hawkeye becomes a problem, and it's more fun to write my ship as Clint and Natasha running around being spies and shooting stuff.*g*

Which of course, is what I've been writing! It's supposed to be Avengers!Kara and Sam shooting things. But I realized it really is Clint and Natasha, for all practical purposes, so maybe I should change the names. Or I can post the fusion version here for my BSG friends to get a kick out of, and then I'll switch it for wider distribution. Or I don't know. Thoughts? MY LIFE IS HARD YO
Oh, um, so I had this post for TVD yesterday and I didn't quite finish it, and then it got lost in a firefox crash. :(

So here, have some short roundup notes for various shows of the last day three days...

TVD- Finale )

NIKITA GOT RENEWED. WOOT. All my comments on the episode are over here because woot, I am now a reviewer! So check it out! :D

I don't have much to say about Person of Interest, except that a stray comment on Tumblr has made me start writing AVENGERS/POI fic. Because John Reese needs to join SHIELD. And have a fling with Natasha. yes I realize Batman is not Marvel, but hush, it'll work. I'm already writing this fic. Because clearly the world is in NEED.

This is not even counting the Asgardian Family Shenanigans Part 2 I am writing.

you guys, I WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS. AT ALL. I've been rather lukewarm to the other Marvel films as a general rule (that's why I didn't even see Thor when it was first out). Iron Man and Captain America were fine, serviceable films, but they didn't really make me feel fannish at all. I've never been into the Avengers as a comic, so this is ... really out of the fucking blue that I'm into it like this at all.

So, I'm sorry my BSG rewatch has been derailed (at the second episode! lol, wow I suck) into OMG!AVENGERS but, um, well, I caught the fever, I guess. :D
Warning: watching Avengers Sunday and Thor yesterday may result in Asgardian Family Shenanigans fic.

Or in my case, has resulted in fic. God, I don't even want to know how many people have written the exact same thing already. I think this is one of the things that sorta scares me off from a big, active current fandoms? Or at least why I usually wander off into secondary-character-land? The fandom's already moved into wacky kid AUs and I want to do something fifty people have already done.

oh well. I wrote it. It's not quite finished yet, though.

Talking about Thor and Avengers and stuff )

and sorry, BSG- "Water" has been delayed until tomorrow so I can watch the relevant bits of "Thor" again before I have to return it to my local Redbox. :D
