Henry IV Part One

It is entirely probable that watching this (part 2 of BBC's The Hollow Crown Shakespeare adaptations) is NOT GOOD for my Loki fixation because JFC, Hiddleston. (and Jeremy Irons and some other people, but really, if I'm being honest, Hiddleston as Hal is the only reason I'm watching it). Cracks me up when they're talking about being anonymous, cuz Prince Hal is a giant and not likely to be anonymous ANYWHERE, lol. But it's really well done - though I wish they'd brighten the color palette a bit - and I'm looking forward to the others. I can't remember what happens in part 2, though I did actually read the Henry plays a few decades ago. Watching it is also really good for working on Understanding the Storm, because his inflections are the same (the first half he's basically Loki), and the language of course is inspiring. (I had great dialogue in mind last night that I stupidly didn't write down. D'oh!)

It's going to be an interesting thing when we get to Henry V though, because the Kenneth Branagh movie is pretty much my most favorite adaptation of all time. I have the Belgian one-sheet framed, the soundtrack is among the greatest ever (Patrick Doyle's first, which is just ASTONISHING), and the best memories of driving a hundred miles with my BFF to go see it in the only theater showing it in all of New Mexico and then nearly dying on the way home in a sudden hailstorm. So, y'know, irregardless of the movie's actual quality, which is good, I have a great nostalgic love for it. I hope both adaptations will live side-by-side in my fannish glee, not conflict.

I will forever love the story that on Chris Hemsworth's first day as Thor, Branagh told him to memorize the band of brothers speech from Henry V to deliver it the next day. And he basically stared in horror. Because no, that's not intimidating AT ALL. <3 <3

THOR 2 will be sadly Branagh-less, though he's listed as a producer, so maybe not uninvolved, and I have hopes for Alan Taylor who directs a lot of HBO shows, including GoT. Whatever, I'm still gonna watch the hell out of it (even though it's gonna joss Understanding the Storm horribly, I'm sure). Iron Man 3 can sit down in the corner and wait.

Just when I thought I could love Hiddleston no more he goes and does Shakespeare so flawlessly. Tom is the perfect Hal and his passion for Shakespeare shines through in his performance. I especially loved his impersonation of Jeremy Irons (brilliant!). If I wasn't already flailing all over Loki and Hiddles, I would have been after watching Henry IV.

I'm sad that Branagh won't be reprising his role as director for Thor 2. It won't be the same without him!

he was so good. And now I really wish Loki would turn more like Hal because some of that at the end was SO FLAWLESS, and just, ugh - WHY ARE YOU DESTROYING MY LIFE TOM HIDDLESTON WHYYYYY?

Hullo there, another Hiddles fangirl! =D Can't wait to see 'The Hollow Crown'! Tom Hiddleston had my fangirl heart at hello when I saw Thor. My friends simply stared at me in disbelief when I told them that I only went to see 'The Avengers' at the movies for Loki and I did not really care for the rest of the superheroes. I'm really curious about what the writers have in store for his character in the sequel. Hopefully, something good and substantial. =)

I do love the heroes as well (esp Natasha and Hawkeye) but it's not quite the same complete FANNISH GLEE I have for Loki/Hiddles. :) I certainly wouldn't have gone to Avengers more than once without him (I went the third time purely for the purpose of audio recording all his dialogue, lol)

I am a bit concerned with word that Thor 2 will be mostly on Earth and features a different villain that Loki won't be in it as much, or will be relegated to orchestrating the other villain from within Asgard or something like that. But I also have to believe that they wouldn't be too stupid and not use him, when he's such a damn treasure and rules the internet. So I'll cross my fingers!

Ooh, that I didn't know, I'm glad he might be involved some way. But hey, Alan Taylor did direct some of the GoT eps I liked so whee! :)

i remember there was a rumor that Natalie Portman was pissed about Branagh leaving because she'd really only signed on to work with him. So maybe the producer credit was to bring him back aboard enough to mollify her. But that only works if Branagh was replaced, rather than didn't want to do it again (which I also heard). So I dunno. But I assume he'll have some kind of influence, so long as it's not one of those "thanks for your service, here, have a credit now gtfo" sort of things...
