The epic crossover of Crack has now broken 5K.

BRAIN, WHY SO BACKWARD?

I could use those 5K on any other project I have going (not going) at the moment. And yet, the more I do, the more I think of new fun scenes that I have to reach. Ack! Well, at least there's a deadline, soon, to restrict the wild flailing. I just hope reading it is half as fun as writing it.

I got the DVDs for Jeremiah season two, which MGM finally put out as part of the "Manufacture on demand" program, which is kinda like buying a DVD-R of the show. The box and menus are the most hilariously boring generic thing ever. It has NO extras, whatsoever (I know JMS has said he'd rather be boiled in oil than deal with MGM again, so no surprise he's not involved, but still, I wish there was SOMETHING). It's unfortunately in fullscreen aspect, which sucks because I think there's a widescreen version as well, and certainly not HD. BUT, at least it exists. So now I can finally get rid of the VERY LAST VHS tapes on my shelf.

poor wee fandom. *huggles*
Everybody knows that Burn Notice with Tricia Helfer now on it, starts tonight, right?

Also, for those who may have wondered about my occasional forays into the fandom and a ginormous crossover with SG-1 I wrote, Jeremiah starts tonight on Scifi at 7. It'll run four hours every Thurs.

Now, I will freely admit that this show is not everyone's cuppa. Hell, when I first tried it when it premiered after SG-1 way back when Stargate was still on Showtime, it wasn't MY cuppa. I really wanted to like it because it's produced by JMS (he of Babylon 5) and it's a post-apocalyptic scenario. The premise is sort of "Lord of the Flies: 15 years later". Fifteen years after a virus killed the adults, what happens to the children who've grown up in this world that fell apart? Awesome premise, y/y? Huge fodder for stories. BUT the first half hour is desperately slow and overall the pacing is rather leisurely.

But I am stubborn, and when the pilot disc was packed with one of the SG-1 box sets, I tried again. And this time, with a bit of perseverance, the characters and their 'verse really grabbed me. As with Season 1 of B5, a lot of the early eps are to show you this strange world they live in, but the arc builds until it culminates in the season finale.

The show stars Luke Perry and Malcolm Jamal-Warner, and while I was originally dubious about Luke Perry who was coming off 90210 at the time, he's done basically nothing but serious stuff since, so I don't think that should be as strong a bar. It's a buddy show, sort of, though that formula also falls apart as the arc ramps up.

The show also features a WHOLE LOTTA people from the Vancouver Actors Gang (it's really great for bingo!). BSG people are particularly well-represented, with Kandyse McClure in an important recurring role, Tricia Helfer is in the first ep (one of her first acting roles), and Alessandro Juliani is an ep in the middle of s.1. Sean Astin joins the cast in season two (and while I'm lukewarm on his character, many fans LOVE him).

The characters aren't easy to categorize, there are as many agendas as there are people, and despite two brief seasons, I know them better than shows that have run for twice as long.

So, all that in mind, I urge you to give it a try. If it does well enough, maybe MGM will FINALLY put season 2 out on DVD!!!

First, the thing I am MOST proud of this year, BY FAR:

DISTORTED REFLECTIONS
A Stargate SG-1 Adventure Novel,
written by Lizardbeth and Lowri
SG-1 is trapped on a post-apocalyptic Alternate Earth.
GEN, 40+ chapters, over 200,000 words
Go to [livejournal.com profile] distortd_ref: Notes or Chapter One
Now finished posting chapter-by-chapter, and shortly will have the whole thing in a tidy downloadable format.
Please check it out!

Now to the short fic:

Stargate 'verse )

Battlestar Galactica )

Jeremiah, and Other fandoms )

OBSERVATIONS:

1. If I didn't enter ficathons/comment-a-thons/etc., I would have hardly any fic to speak of. Apparently deadlines are my friend.

2. Anders took over my brain this year. I have NO BSG fic without him in it, in some sort of significant role. Even in 'Two Tall Trees' which was meant to be only Helo and Ronon, Anders crept in there. I blame seeing Michael Trucco last year and the BSG S.3 finale for this.

3. I still love me my Stargate. But I didn't finish an unprompted piece of my own.
So. *gulp* Here we go.

Distorted Reflections

a Stargate SG-1 fanfiction novel by [livejournal.com profile] lizardbeth_j and Lori Wright

While searching for the Lost City, SG-1 is trapped on a strange and frightening alternate Earth. Fifteen years ago a plague decimated the Earth, killing the adults and leaving the children to fend for themselves. Now those children have grown up, and a war is brewing over who will control the future. Jack, Sam, Daniel and Teal'c find that they must fight, risking everything, if they hope to find a way home.

This is technically a crossover with the t.v. series Jeremiah; however, no knowledge of that series is necessary to read this.

Rated R for violence, adult themes, and language.

Pairings: none. This is GEN (S.7 team, including Jack) Adventure. Markus/Meaghan for Jeremiah, but that's it.

The novel is COMPLETE and beta'd. I'll post at least two (normal-sized) chapters every Wednesday to the comm I set up for it, [livejournal.com profile] distortd_ref.

Start here with the Notes and Acknowledgments. I've put up four chapters to get you started, to meet the players, and get an idea of how hard it's going to be for SG-1 to get home.

People are always saying there's not enough Stargate gen, team adventure fic. So here it is!

Please read and let us know what you think!
Hmmm...

I received a notice that vol. 11 of the B5 scripts is coming out soon. This is the one that covers the transition from S.4 to S.5. Now, I remember the wankstorm of that period, especially the departure/firing/mistaken negotiating tactic of Claudia Christian and I'm desperately curious to see if JMS' story has changed at all in the intervening years. I gave up on getting all the volumes, focusing just on my favorites, even though I really want the "bonus" volume which contains the original outline of the five-year plan (hopefully someone will get it and post at least that part) but I might have to get this one.

Couldn't get into Supernatural last night. It's not like I don't like meta comedy episodes either (hell, I LOVE "200", although I'm a lot more iffy on "Wormhole X-Treme" from the SG-1 collection), but ... I don't know. Maybe it was me. Nice to see Gary Cole again, however briefly. Makes me want to dig out my American Gothic and Crusade DVDs.

Speaking of Crusade, sort of, I was watching Lost the other day and wishing one of the magical powers of the island would let Jin suddenly speak English. Do they have to be so stupidly realistic about this one thing? *sigh* But Daniel Dae Kim is still ridiculously HOT. (see icon for Jin yumminess) Someday I'll have to finish that abandoned story in which Matheson and his wife have hot telepath sex...

It's quite hilarious watching Lost with someone who grew up in Hawaii, though, because he can identify where they filmed everything. This past week it was Desmond's flashback where the "monastery" was my sister-in-law's high school. *snerk*

I'm writing my Jeremiah ficathon fic. *sigh* WHY, OH WHY, do I have to do these long plotty action things? Just cracked 5000 words and they haven't even escaped yet...
