You guys, it's confirmed that Orlando IS signed for The Hobbit two-parter! (and Cate Blanchett too, btw)

eeeeeeeeee!

I confess I've always been sad that the story developed backwards, in that clearly Legolas ought to be in The Hobbit someplace, except of course he wasn't invented yet. But the movies can 'fix' that and I find it AWESOME. Since part 2 is supposed to be the raid on Dol Guldur (mentioned in the appendices) I presume that's where they'll put him, although it's not like Jackson doesn't deviate from canon when he feels like it, so he may appear in all of the Mirkwood sequences including the Battle of the Five Armies.

So, they have Orli, and Cate, and are in negotiations with McKellan and Hugo Weaving, and then all they need to do is cast someone awesome for Thranduil and all my faves will be there. (and hee, I bet they'll even get Craig Parker back. Heck, while they're at it, might as well get the entire beautiful cast from Seeker in there someplace, since they're gonna need lots of elves)

Eeeeeee, that's cool! It's too bad Craig Parker can't play Thranduil, since he'd be so perfect.

heh, yep, already cast. :) .

I had thought at the time of LotR that Jason Isaacs should be Thranduil, since he looked like Thranduil-in-my-head as Lucius Malfoy, but he's probably too old now.

Oh, I would DIE if the cast from Seeker were in there. Yum! Yum! Though I did see the guy who played Darkan Rahl is in Spartacus. I'm so tempted to Netflix it in the hopes that we have eye candy like in Rome. LOL!!!!!

I KNOW RIGHT? I was so sure it was dead for awhile there. and now it's like my dream project even more! I SO wanted legolas back, but I thought they wouldn't ask and he'd only do it as a cameo, even if they asked. But I guess his leading man efforts have met with enough failure he's willing, after all. So YAY.

OMG with the awesome.

The movie can come out NOW right?

I like that they're using characters who were in background, like Legolas and Radagast the Brown (Seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy FTW!).

Legolas is a wood elf so he could be any of the random elves Bilbo and Co encounter there. This one doesn't surprise me since Orlando almost needs the work. Although until McKellan and Weaving are on board I won't be celebrating The Hobbit without Mckellan wouldn't be the same.

it'll be interesting to see where Jackson puts Legolas. I don't know whether they scripted it assuming he'd come back, or how that works, but it's not going to be a cameo acc to the report I read, which is pretty exciting to me. But I'm down with more elves in general, so yay!

Negotiations are usually just a matter of money and percentages. So unless either of them have other contracts that conflict, I'm not really worried about them coming onboard. I doubt the project's going forward without McKellan and he know that. They probably tried to low-ball him and he laughed at them.
