Y'know, Self, I know it's very exciting to be writing the Plot Kraken again, but still, you don't need to shove ALL the reveals into the first two scenes you're writing. Head!people need to be used SPARINGLY. Besides, I think Hera might like to find her Mommy and Daddy first. Just sayin'.

So, if they reboot old!BSG are they going to swap someone else's gender or keep 'em all guys? There were four women on Old Skool - Serina (dies early), Sheba the pilot (comes later), Athena (commander's daughter and comm officer) and Cassie (nurse), the latter two had catfights over Starbuck. Shining examples of feminism right there. I said over at Sitrep that my bet is that in order to make it "darker and edgier" and yet not use RDM-verse (since if Larson is involved it won't), I bet they'll make Adama more like Cain, since that'll give them instant conflict on the ship after the attacks. And then Apollo (played by James Marsden of course) can try to soften him up. Meanwhile, his good buddy Starbuck will still be a hotshot pilot and still like the ladies, except he'll probably be a drug addict. Luckily there'll be tons of Ho!Yay so at least the slashers will like it.

They might use some combination of humans and Cylons, though, like the Apollo/Locutus of Borg from Hatch's continuation idea. And who knows if they'll try to incorporate new series-inspired ideas on the sly. Which, not necessarily a bad thing. I guess we'll see. I'm actually rather curious, without having true enthusiasm.

I suppose that depends on whether it's a true reboot - in which case we'll see the fall of the colonies again - or some kind of modernized sequel to the old series (more like Superman Returns). The second would be more interesting than watching big meany Cylons dropping nukes some more, but I find the whole idea so underwhelming that's not saying a whole lot. Mostly I just wish they'd done this ten years ago when I actually would've cared about it. *grump*

I suspect they'll try to do something with one of the original-series female characters, or they'll invent a new one.

James Marsden as Apollo would actually get me to see this movie. Is that wrong? :p

But you know he won't get the girl! And Marsden is good with playing stick-up-their-ass males, so it's all good, there.

If they set it as a "sequel" then they could use Sheba as a pilot. Or as I read someplace, they could mash-up Apollo and Athena into Athena the Pilot and that way they still get a girl/boy combo, it would just be reversed from RDM-verse. I don't think Larson would sign off on that though.

At least Marsden would be pretty as Apollo!

It feels so WRONG that I'm all crotchety about the prospect of Starbuck as a MAN.

They should make a movie that's Kara, Sam, and some other people, like, stranded on an asteroid or something. They could call it Lost in Space! =D

heh, it is rather like being Whiners: the Second Generation, isn't it?

"You can't make him into a girl!"
"Neener, suck it, Old Skool fans"
...
"Wait, you can't make her a boy!"
".... Hahahaha"

And Kara is a better Starbuck anyway!

Though I am amused by the idea of them flipping Apollo to a girl instead. hee.

But...but I love head!people. All head!people all the time would not displease me. ;-)

You put James Marsden but the first actor who popped into my mind was James D'Arcy and I was all "Ooh, I'm totally in on that!" Sorry. *squashes shallowness*

Head!People tend to babble on cryptically about all the important revelations. THIS IS NOT ON.

Marsden is because Singer brings him into everything now, so it seems like a natural casting assumption to make! Marsden and/or Kevin Spacey (the new Baltar, maybe)...

But it is to be a reboot of the original, right? So it is reboot 2 - the alternate version, or something. With tv movies of current reboot still coming and Caprica I wonder how confused people who will do internet searches about new movie will be. Not to mention all the fandom wanks about which is the "true" version. Like there wasn't any other old, cheesy series to reboot.

All this reboot talk makes me want to watch ReBoot again.

In fairness the movie's not written so it could be anything, including a sequel to RDM's version, but Glen Larson's disdain for Nu!BSG is pretty well known and, IIRC, he holds the theatrical rights, so a movie isn't likely to include any RDM-specific changes. And yes, I'd think with Caprica coming especially, NBCU wouldn't want that sort of confusion. But maybe they figure Star Trek and the comic book movies can withstand separate continuities without getting confused. Or maybe the movie will have to work with Caprica - it's set far enough back a reboot could still incorporate it (sort of like how Nu!Trek gave a nod to 'Enterprise')... I don't know, we'll see. It might not ever get made after all.
