What a crappy bust of a weekend. wah. On Friday, besides feeling generally mildly icky, I also managed to pull something in my lower back, so the rest of the weekend was spent trying not to sit for too long and gingerly stretching to keep it from stiffening up (and getting MrLiz to rub my back, which was not a bad thing *g*). The several hours in the car didn't help but at least today I don't have to go take drugs, so it's better.

I watched a bunch of t.v. from a rather odd position on the floor or the couch - BSG and caught up on TSCC and Burn Notice.

For Deadlock, just briefly, since everyone else has already gone into such detail and I'm late to the party -- I think the basic story was fine, but the editing was incredibly frakked. It put emphasis where it shouldn't have been, and cut out or made implicit what should have been explicit. Like losing the parts about the Centurions and the marines? BAD CHOICE. We can only connect the dots if we have them, and here they were both cut, so we're left with spackling it ourselves. Which I find kind of fun (and it wasn't that hard here, since the solutions were pretty obvious), but I shouldn't have to, especially for things that are so fundamental to the decisions made within the show. Another, different cut would do wonders for the episode, IMO.

For SCC, we watched the last two eps back to back. The 8 o'clock timeslot is bad for us, since that's kidlet bedtime, so we always miss the first half, and have to go back and see it from the beginning later.

Sarah bonding with the doctor was a great demonstration of how she's both paranoid and also how she has an ability to get people to trust her, even in circumstances where they really shouldn't. It happens again in Desert Cantos.

aw, Hallucination!Kyle. Even he thinks she should cut Derek some slack. (plus, y'know that thing we call talking? They should all do that)
Derek blowing stuff up!
I hope Riley and/or Jesse makes her move soon.

The following episode with the funeral was different. I saw someone describe it as X-Files-ish, and yes, that's it exactly. Team Connor is investigating the factory, infiltrates the memorial service (without even changing their clothes? yeah, no wonder Walsh made you ALL, Sarah), discovers some more weirdness, and we end in that really freaky image of the HK sliding itself into the truck to be taken off on its own. We know the HK's end up with Skynet, so where's it going? Not to Zeira corp, clearly. So is Weaver building a new-and-improved Skynet from the one she presumably knows? While Old-Skool Skynet is still trying to do things the old fashioned way? We've got at least four agendas from the future playing out in the present, and I just love trying to pick it apart.

Speaking of Weaver, I feel for Savannah. Poor thing. "Your lap is cold." It's worse than that, little one -- your fake mommy just butchered thirty people, and you're only alive because she's trying to understand emotions from you. (I think. Otherwise, I don't know why Weaver-bot bothers with the pretense)

Ellison, do not disappoint me. Actually I hope John Henry tells him Weaver's a robot. Because that? would be a great scene.

The idea of John Henry watching "Beast Wizard" on youtube is frakking hilarious. And playing with Bionicles. Thus we are condemned by our own pop culture and lack of ball joints...

On Burn Notice -- Hello there, Mark Sheppard. Again! When even hubby remarks on the BSG crossover actors, perhaps it's time to ease up.... But as always, it's frothy fun.

Sorry to hear about your back. Ouch! Hope it feels better soon.

thanks! it is better today- and as long as I'm not too much of a computer potato (which is HARD! *g*), it doesn't seize up on me. Makes it hard to sit and read much online though. eek, behind!

Can't even blame my new exercise program for this stupidity, alas. :)

If it's a choice of less computer time or drugs, I say take drugs ;) Seriously, take care of yourself. One of my co-workers had a back injury and he was laying on his sofa with his laptop on his chest for weeks. It wasn't fun.

I suspect I'll like Deadlock a little better after a rewatch, but... O_o

SCC, on the other hand, I quite enjoyed. Even if they didn't change clothes, they were all wearing black. So they had that going for them. ;) And I loved Sarah calling Derek "Reese." And him calling her on it. Hee! (They say we won't see any Derek/Sarah ship, but I'm starting to not believe them so much.)

hee. I don't hate it, but it's clearly flawed in execution someplace. I blame editing since that's where it is most clearly, and some of the things Jane has said got cut seem to bear it out. Looking at the episode the things that sort of come out of nowhere, really don't - it's just the emphasis is all screwed up, so you have things like Lack of Love Kills being made concrete when it should've been left vague, and the reasoning behind arming Baltar's cult gets left for the audience to fill in because they cut out all the explanation for it. It's just ... weird choices.

While we were watching Desert Cantos, hubby objected to how scruffy and inappropriate everyone looked. He was all "Derek couldn't even bother to SHAVE?" um, it's part of his charm, hon. heh.

And yeah, she wouldn't be pushing him so hard if he wasn't threatening something, don't you think? Part of it is being protective of her memory of Kyle, but hell, when even Head!Kyle is telling her to chill, girlfriend's got something going. And when Jesse's Sudden and Inevitable Betrayal occurs, Derek's going to start giving Sarah more of a chance, too, I think. But their division is a clear weakness, and one I hope they overcome soon, even if it's not in a shippy way.

Yes. This. THIS. There are mediocre fanvidders out there with a better understanding of the editing process than BSG, even if they do harness their talents to drippy ballads.

As for TSCC, I have *no* idea where they're going with the Savannah / Robo!Catherine relationship. Your idea that she's trying to learn to understand emotion from the tyke makes sense, but it's still weird. I felt like the initial approach to Dr. Sherman was about protecting her cover as much as anything else. She's stuck with Catherine's daughter, unless she wants to stage another tragedy, and the way Savannah reacts to her brings the risk of too much negative attention. So she adapts, learns protective coloration. And I think the call to her assistant to have Savannah brought to the office was another example of camouflage. Ellison is wondering why Savannah's not with her on this very stressful day, and since Ellison is Catherine's gold standard of human, she fixes her error. But in the later scene, there's nobody there to impress, and she genuinely seems to be trying to communicate iwth the child and even make her feel better. Ineptly, of course. But either she's sufficiently puzzled by Savannah to find her fascinating, or she thinks Savannah can teach her something. Either way it's weird, although I guess probably better for Savannah than the alternative. It's very unfortunate to be a little kid whose parents were killed by a T-1000 who's now assumed the form of one parent. But less unfortunate than if Robo!mommy didn't have a use for her / didn't like her.

As for the total inability of the Connor/Reese contingent to blend in, I call bullshit. Sarah was totally capable of putting on a dark business suit and "professional" hair back in Season 1 when she visited Derek in jail. I think she can dress for a funeral.

On the other hand, I actually liked John in Desert Cantos. His role didn't overwhelm the narrative, but he wasn't just sulky emo teen while the rest of the family actually worked (thinking back now to episode 2.02). He played a useful role.

Hope your back gets better soon!

Haha, Mark Sheppard is on everything lately... he was on Leverage a couple of weeks ago too and when I saw Burn Notice, I just lol'ed.

Completely unrelated to the subject of your post, but thought you might like to know that the story I promised you ages ago is finally up here (http://azarsuerte.livejournal.com/443373.html). :-)

Eeek I hope your back's better!

Mark Sheppard's poping up in practically every single show I'm watching (ie Burn Notice, Leverage, Dollhouse, BSG) and it's vaguely annoying.
