My shower door just shattered into a zillion pieces.

There's glass ALL OVER THE PLACE. including me.

I'm just waiting for the other door to fall off too. the joys of home ownership, man. *shakes fist*

ETA: I was standing in it when it broke, so there was nowhere to step to get out, but on more glass, so my feet are kind of scratched up and my hands (because I tried to CATCH IT *head desk*). But otherwise I'm fine. :) My contractor is sending one of his guys to vacuum it up.

OMG! How scary!

I'm assuming you're okay, if shaken and surrounded by bits of glass?

*thinks of her own glass shower doors* *shudders*

oh yes, this was a few minutes ago. I'm waiting for my contractor to come vacuum it up. So I have small cuts from when I TRIED TO CATCH IT (because I am stupid, yo), and when I had to step out. But I still feel little slivers stuck, y'know? gah.

yeah, this is the hanging kind, which are, I have now found out, really only propped up by the little stopper thing on the bottom, which came loose today. They move(d) very smoothly and were beautiful, but DEATH TRAP OMG.

i'm okay, just a bit scratched up! Mostly my feet because I was standing in it when it broke and there was nowhere to step to get out, except on more glass. But nothing serious! :)

what caused it to break, did it just shatter or did the door support break?

From: [identity profile] lizardbeth-j.livejournal.com

Ha, trust the engineer to ask how! :)
the guide at the bottom had come loose, so there was nothing to hold it from swinging laterally when I tried to pull it closed (it hangs and rolls from the top). And when it swung, only a little bit of sideways motion was needed to let it slip off the track above and fall.

Oh my. I'm glad to hear that you're okay despite the scratches and stuff.

Eeep! That's scary. So glad you're okay.

(and in case you're worried, you are FAR from the only person in the world to try to catch something they really shouldn't)

Especially when it's ALREADY SHATTERING. lots of luck with that, self! duh.

yes, thanks, I'm fine!

Yikes! I thought showers were made of safety glass.

I'm glad you're okay and the kidlet wasn't around(?).

From: [identity profile] lizardbeth-j.livejournal.com

oh it was safety glass, otherwise it probably would've broken more like a mirror and splintered into bigger, pointy shards. That's why it shattered so EXTRAVAGANTLY. I'd need stitches on my feet if it had been regular glass, but I've just got scratches, so -- phew!

He was in the house but not with me, so he's fine. thanks!

*meep*

I'm glad you're okay! That could've been so much worse.

*hugs you tight*

oh yes, it could've been kidlet in the shower. eek!

Thanks! :)

Damn!

Well, class, what does this tell us? No singing in the shower!

Sorry, had to say it.

Sounds like something that would have had my shower water turning a few shades other than clear. You didn't get any slivers in your skin, did you? Do you know what caused it?

Re: Damn!

bwahhahahaha! You figured it out! I hit that high note and CRAAAAAASH! :D hee, thanks for that.

It was a sliding door that basically fell off its track.

Ack! I'm glad you're okay - that's a little more excitement than I like first thing in the morning.

From: [identity profile] lizardbeth-j.livejournal.com

yes, it was very exciting, but now it's sort of a pain in the butt. And I have a very ugly temporary curtain in place of my lovely shower doors - and yet I feel much safer! :)

OMG I totally missed this post somehow! [personal profile] greycoupon mentioned that you'd had a weird household accident too, and I ran over to see. Glad you're okay. And yes, the joys of home ownership...

my brand new door! *sniff*

But omg it sounds like you got much more hurt than I did! yikes. *hands you ice* to put on your head or in a drink, whichever you need more... *g*
