On this day of remembrance and honor, here are some caps of one of the best things in SG-1: The day Sam got promoted on-screen from captain to major, honoring her for saving the world.

Later it got kind of "all in a day's work" and expected for SG-1 to do the impossible, but at this point in the series, they're still officially acknowledged for what they do.

So, yay, Sam, get that Air Medal and a promotion to Major!

Major Samantha Carter )

Samantha Carter saves the World. She uses her gun, when she needs to, but she mostly uses her brain. She faces danger and perseveres to save lives, because it's her job and it's the right thing to do.

That's what heroes do.
Okay, so this is the most inconveniently timed meme/event thingy ever, but since I didn't want to let it pass with NADA, I um raided stargate-caps and I have a little appreciation of Sam Carter, Day 1 for [livejournal.com profile] womenlovefest

Sam's thread: http://womenlovefest.livejournal.com/50286.html#comments

For Day one, this is a picspam of Sam from the pilot episode, which really does a fantastic synopsis/base for the character Sam becomes as the show continues. Sam is not the first female officer in a tv show, and not even the first in a long-running tv show (Major Houlihan of MASH is before her, to name one I can think of) but she's certainly high on the list. I was a little too old when I started watching to be inspired, but still I consider Sam one of the backbone female characters of my formative years nonetheless.

Also I have at least one margarita in me. Just FYI.

With Richard Dean Anderson on the show last week (and he'll be on at least twice more, but not tomorrow), Fairly Legal has ALSO brought in another one we love for a guest spot.

Short sneak peek of her scene embedded under the cut.

SG-1 and Supernatural crossover casting )

Still, this, and the previous announced return of a few other guests have me... intrigued? More than I expected after the crash and burn of the Walmart apocalypse, anyway.

Y'know, speaking of casting for SPN, why has JR Bourne not been on this show yet? I know he moved to LA but he must have to go back once in a while especially to visit his BFF who's camped out in Vancouver again . It's a slam dunk - he does both guileless and evil so well.

I am offering Action Figure Theater in the [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti Auction. (yes, inspired by [livejournal.com profile] abyssinia4077 because good ideas are there to be stolen!)

Some of you may recall the halcyon days of Action Figure Theater in this LJ. I have, sadly, not done it lately. This was the last time. I think..

Fandoms are BSG and SG1. Both 6" and Minimates for BSG. If you have a particular crack desire, I actually have lots of other figures, including X-Men, Babylon 5, and lots of LotR, etc.

My thread is here for bidding
Pairing: Sam Carter/Malcolm Barrett
Rating: Mature
Prompt: [livejournal.com profile] sg_rarepairings, Sam/Barrett, "trust and consequences"
Spoilers: Insiders
Summary: She couldn't let the Goa'uld steal her chance again.

Start with Agent Barrett )

one more fic to go this month. phew! Hope you enjoyed.
*phew* Man, days inside with a restless, cooped-up kidlet are LOOOOOONG. If I lived anywhere with permanently sucky winters, I'd totally invest in a trampoline or bounce house or something, because he is just CRAZED.

However, I took a group of pics I need to upload: The Many Faces of Rugrat. It's pretty hilarious.

I'm also nearly done with my [livejournal.com profile] sg_rarepairings fic. I'd actually kind of forgotten how awesome Barrett is, until I was doing this. Dude gets tapped by the president to take down the Bad NID ON HIS LONESOME, hangs with hardcore arms dealers, kicks in doors at least twice, and when he gets brainwashed and nearly killed, comes back for MORE. Sam, babe, I love you, but YOU ARE DUMB TO LET THAT GET AWAY.

So, um, she doesn't, in this. *g*

(oops. icon!fail. wrong Sam.)

Oh, and thanks for the cookie snowflakes, flisters! *hugs*

You guys, I HAS ART for The Road to Tartarus! I didn't get the "official" art, but instead, [livejournal.com profile] wandstonecloak (aka Atlantis Abydos on DeviantArt) read all three stories in my Asheron Series and then made ART for them! Completely unrequested, unexpected -- just because it was inspiring.

Isn't that the coolest thing? I've never had anyone make art for my stories before, and I love them so much.

First is an illustration of Malek/Asheron from Tok'ra Allegiance, and Asheron's flashback to the past when he recalls how Ishtar murdered his daughter.

And the second is a really amazing and HOT pic/cover art of Baal and Asheron for The Road to Tartarus. NSFW

you should check them out! )

Title: Five Sunrises that Malek Saw
Author: Lizardbeth
Words: 3,254
Summary: The Tau'ri have a saying, "It's always darkest before the dawn." But in space, the sun never rises. Five moments of light and dark in Asheron and Malek's life.

Note: These ficlets feature Asheron, my host for Malek from my stories "Tok'ra Allegiance" and "Going Home" and will probably not make much sense without reading them first. These snapshots are in chronological order. Five Sunrises )

Title: Going Home
Rating: R
Genre: Adventure, Romance, Season 8 AU
Series: Sequel to ' Tok'ra Allegiance', second in the Asheron series
Pairing: Sam/Malek
Words: ~35,000

Summary: The last few Tok'ra find refuge on Earth after a devastating attack, and discover that their future lies in the secrets of Malek's past, while Sam finds something she never expected.

Notes: Ishtar, the Goa'uld queen introduced in my story "Tok'ra Allegiance" is no relation to Ishta, the Jaffa priestess. Ishtar was a goddess of the Babylonian pantheon, famous for her role in the epic of Gilgamesh.

This was originally posted online back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth (before I came to LJ), but all have been combined into one file here (go, DW, go!). I've made some minor edits to the story, but it's mostly as it was back then.

Bonus ficlets: Five Sunrises: five moments of light and dark in Asheron's life

To be continued in The Road to Tartarus in one short week. *gulp*
SG-1 Question.

Let's say you're a Goa'uld system lord, like Baal, for random example. You have a Stargate on your homeworld, near your palace, that you keep a coded forcefield on (like the SGC's iris), but with the access code fairly well spread among your upper level minions (who may betray you at any moment, so it's not super secure). However, you have not EVER been attacked at home. Presuming you're a bit smarter than the average Goa'uld, would you keep your Stargate inside your palace under guard, for convenience? Or would you put it outside the walls and rely on your ships if escape should ever be necessary?

I have, for example, always thought Apophis was pretty stupid for having his gate so far away from his palace on Chulak. It gave his enemies far too many opportunities for mischief unobserved.

And yet, OTOH, SG-1 also teaches us that having your Stargate too close to something you want to keep is a recipe for disaster, since gates malfunction, higher-level enemies find ways to attack it, etc.

Not that this is important, even in the fic, I just CAN'T DECIDE!

ETA: It occurs to me that there's canon that it can't be TOO far away, since Baal notices the gate's behaving strangely in Avenger and takes advantage of it, within minutes of it starting.

Picture of the prototype fig under the cut )

I can't wait to do AFT with this. Oh, if only they'd come out earlier than July (they claim. They also wildly overestimate.)
I had some of these ready to add yesterday and then got, y'know, distracted by RL. *g*

Well, it seems kind of a shame not to picspam anyway.

PICSPAM, PART THE SECOND! Guys what I like! )

Because one pic isn't enough - and why post pics of trees or butterflies or whatever when I could be posting pics of my imaginary boyfriends?

yo, you think there might be photos under here? yeah, you'd be right )

I may add to this as the day and night goes on... and on... and on...

I managed to write two more ficlets for the Porn Battle:

Know Too Much , SCC, Derek/Cameron.

Not Him , Stargate SG-1, Jack/Jonas.

I have part of two others that outgrew the bounds and there's no way I can finish them tomorrow in time for the deadline anyway, so this is it. Neither of these are my "ships" but I always figure I should try new things for something like the Porn Battle, even if they're... out of the blue.

Check 'em out, if you want.

In honor of a very special occasion, which is kidlet getting out of preschool for a month of vacation (which means highly reduced online time, btw, since I won't be able to get online during the day very often), I watched Stargate Continuum in my few hours of freedom today!

In brief: YAY!

Spoilers )

The bad thing about the DVD and the leaked copy is that everyone's reactions are all spread out. :( I'll go read some of the earlier ones that I skipped, but please, if you've already seen it or after you watch, feel free to talk. I feel like I missed out on some of the discussion!

And also, I'm writing SG-1/Dark Knight Sam Carter-Bruce Wayne kicking-ass-together fic based on MY OWN PROMPT from the porn battle. It's sort of pathetic to write your own prompt, isn't it?

Gateworld.net has posted the Continuum Teaser Trailer.

AND it's going to be released in Blu-Ray HD. Why, I wouldn't possibly want spaceship porn, and three of my t.v. boyfriends in high-def -- HOW SILLY!!! I'm totally buying it, y'all.

Under the cut is a screengrab I made from the trailer. It's a bit enlarged and blurry, sorry 'bout that, but still awesome.

Before the BSG stuff later, I just want to bitch whine about my Gate fic. I think I've mentioned that I got whammed in the face by this Sam/Barrett ficlet idea. Right. Well, the law of unintended consequences has sort of struck with a vengeance.

Does anybody else totally fall in love with the ship they happen to be writing at the time? Because before, while I didn't mind the pairing and I thought it was kind of cute in canon, I didn't really get into it. And now, it's THE BEST PAIRING EVER OMG!!!!

Yes, I'm sure fandom is just DYING for an epic Sam/Barrett romance through all of S.10 and SGA S.4.

but it's so CUTE, and they're so good together! even if only in my poor deluded suddenly crazy shipper brain....

I went poking around gateworld for info on Barrett, actually (because I couldn't remember if he'd been in any eps between Insiders and Dominion), and I found this.

Brad and Martin, you want babies? They're yours. Just make sure this scene stays in the movie.
