lizardbeth: (Annie - covert affairs)

*waits* *bites nails* Ack, this BB art claiming thing is kind of nerve wracking.

damn, that was a good ep for WC. Well-constructed, unpredictable, and hee, I love it when Peter's doing the con.

Peter go home to your wife! (I know he can't what with her not being there, but still. I miss her).

Covert Affairs:

- ok, Gregory Itzin as Sendhil Ramamurthy's dad is either the most awesome or hilarious thing ever. I can't decide. President Logan is Mohinder's dad! *snickers*

- I know it bugs some people, but I like that Annie's got talent but not always skill. She doesn't do everything perfectly, though she does a lot very well. But she can still be outplayed and she's still learning. As I wrote somewhere, each week is a little life-lesson in the Agency. This week's was a "how far is too far" lesson, going into the moral quandary problem (something I'm sure we'll be seeing more later)

- I like that Ben is an active part of the mythology. eta: as someone else pointed out: Ben is not the Kate (from White Collar). They're both somewhat motivating forces, but Kate was/is more of a Macguffin that Neal's trying to find (she's really more like Michael's thing on Burn Noticeer and acts as the string that keeps the eps together in order). Whereas Ben might have somewhat inspired Annie to get into the biz and she obv still cares for him, he isn't her sole motivator. She knows he's out there, but she's not (at least so far) using all the assets at her fingertips to find him. Instead it's kind of the reverse, in that Arthur's trying to use HER to reel him in. So, I don't know if that's "better" exactly, but it's different, at least.

- "There'll be a girl here before I even get across the bar." And there was! Well-played, show.

and of course, I've sat on this entry so long I completely forgot what else I was intending to say...

But she can still be outplayed and she's still learning.

This was actually one of the things that I really liked about the fight at the end of the pilot--that she was over-matched and needed help. She was fabulous and didn't give up, but the other guy had, like, a hundred pounds on her and had killed for a living.

Her being completely perfect would have left no room for anyone else to have a line.

yeah, exactly. I've read some people complain that Annie's stupid, but I don't see it as her being written as an idiot, just inexperienced. Which is what she's supposed to be. I don't need her to be hyper-competent, especially when she's plenty competent in many ways already!

I may be misremebering but wasn't Sidney Bristow the opposite? That she was always the go-to girl of that outfit and that she was better than most career spies or something. Which kinda soured me off Alias.

Sidney was already pretty experienced by the time we meet her though. She was young, but it wasn't her first or even an early mission, IIRC.

And probably my dislike for the show colors my memories too. lol Anyway, I kinda like this show but I feel I shouldn't - some of my flist hates it. Oh well.

I love the fact that Annie is still so green and far from perfect. Truthfully, I find 'perfect' heroines quite boring. Less thrilled with the ex storyline but maybe that's because we've seen so little of him and thus far, what we have seen has been pretty cliched.

I like that neither Annie nor Ben is all about each other - they think about each other, they had a connection - but it's pretty clear Ben's got an agenda beyond her, and obviously her life doesn't revolve around him either. So I'm not really seeing the cliche.. *shrug*

And people complain she IS perfect, while others bitch that she's too stupid to live, and I'm just done with that fight, y'know? bah.

I'm SO glad they made Henry Wilcox kind of skeevy because after Logan I'd have a really, really hard time thinking of him as a good guy! Poor Mohinder! ... :)

hopefully I get an artist. meep.
