Yes, 'tis the summer of wank. And since I get the paper that sees fit to report on it, before I'd heard about it online (it's possibly at fandom_wank, but I only go there when sockpuppets are involved), thought I'd mention the hilarity.
The scene: There's a t.v. show with Denis Leary called "Rescue Me." He's a firefighter and an alcoholic and generally, um, not a great person, I gather. I've not seen it. The show's new season recently premiered.
The event: In the most recent episode, our not-so-fine hero in a fit of anger, apparently hit and raped his soon to be ex wife. According to the paper, it is suggested that she wasn't angered or even terribly bothered by it.
The funny: well, the producers knew that this was not going to be popular, and they were right. Much wank ensued (the paper didn't call it that, of course). So then, the main producer decides to go defend the choice at, get this, Television without Pity .
And he gets roasted alive.
Well, duh.
I like the paper's comment: "Meanwhile Tolan (the producer) has gotten a bit of karmic payback himself. He clearly feels a little burned by his online adventure."
I bet.

TWOP's main reviewer for BSG loves the show, so the forums aren't so bad. But some shows get utterly roasted, deservedly so IMO. And it's usually pretty funny. heck, I read reviews there for two shows I don't even watch, just because they make me laugh.
The weird thing is that "REscue Me" isn't one of the shows they cover regularly, so I have no idea why the producer chose them to talk to. Weird. and very foolish.
