crack!fic definition. Hm. how about: a story with a premise so completely absurd a reader can only say, "WOw, that author must have been on crack when s/he wrote that!" OFten used for fic involving wings, tentacles, penguins, squid, multiple crossovers, etc. SOmething meant to be humorous usually, and not based very much (or at all) in the canon of the show. The term has migrated into being used for just about anything silly.
Some people write hilarious crackfic. I'm not one of them. I like my canon too much, to go all wild with it, as much as the idea appeals to me.
And no, I have no idea why the term is "crack" instead of something else. :) It didn't originate in any of my fandoms; I just picked it up in the great fandom hive-mind.
