Thanks, NBC, for letting me watch Finland play Germany in hockey live (I believe I will root for the Finns because they have Teemu Selanne who plays for the Ducks and has a cool name) and Canada is fighting against Denmark in curling live, but I couldn't watch my own coutryman win a frakking gold medal LIVE last night because I live in the same timezone the Olympics are actually held in.

Yep, still pissed about that. I do not understand why they can't show us exactly what everyone else is seeing live, and THEN show us all the potted pre-recorded stuff from earlier in the day afterward. SO STUPID.

*eye roll* at Russian pouting. I can't remember who it was (Kulik, maybe?) a few games ago, they were defending on the basis that skating isn't only about jumping. OH THE IRONY. If Plushenko hadn't won at Turin already, with a better performance, I'd feel sorry for him. But now? CRY MOAR.

And Plushenko damn neared stepped out of one jump. Good lord... The Russian posturing all around (If we get anything less than eight medals we're inferior!) is getting quite tiresome. Dudes, you are not what you once were, but you can be something better.

I didn't realise PST didn't get the same live events. That sucks!

yeah, all our main-channel NBC coverage is tape-delayed. CNBC and MSNBC show other events, mostly hockey matches, live. grrrrr.

Totally, Russian men had a GREAT run there between Boitano and yesterday, and I'm sympathetic to him being disappointed. But c'mon, try to act less like a five year old and more like a world-class athlete, dude. But I guess this is always going to happen with subjective judging, no matter how "objective" they try to make the standards-- it's never going to be a timed event (and even then we have the people who were bitching about that one race of Michael Phelps and some supposed clock shenanigians, so even there, it's not exempt)

Well, and we wouldn't want it to be liked the timed events. I'll confess that I love pre-new system skating. To me that was skating! Now that they're putting the points into it, it's all jump jump jump jump. That's not figure skating. That jumping on ice. Evan's program was one of the most beautiful that I've seen under the newer system that is reminiscent of Boitano and the old system masters.

I have pretty much quit watching the women's skating, because the one year they were all SO YOUNG, or looked it, that it was like little jumping beans on ice. :(

Lysacek was AMAZING. But then so was Johnny Weir and he didn't even get a medal (though I think he should have). Plushenko just came off looking like a major jerk.

Lysacek SO deserved it. He was great. And yeah, Plushenko made himself look like a tool. But onward to ice dance! (where we will probably fail and suck, but at least there's a chance for a change!)
