Well, okay, we finished the first draft. So it's not done, at all, but still -- Whoo HOO!

It's a joint effort at a Stargate/Jeremiah crossover, in which, very basically, SG-1 gets dumped into the Jeremiah universe, embroiled in a war, and then has to find a way home. There are Tok'ra, Goa'uld, doubles, evil, and even the Voice of God. And some people swear a lot. *cough*Jeremiah*cough*. hee.

Scary stats:

Time to write -- almost two years. I know we gave it a name in April 2004.

Point of view characters -- eleven (five most of the time: Jack, Sam, Daniel, Markus, Lee, Malek)

Named characters -- forty

Number of words -- approximately 300,000

Number of pages -- more than 600

GULP!

It's all Peter Stebbings' fault. Really, it is.

I have no idea how much we'll be trimming out. Both Lori and I are rather, um, verbose people, but I can be merciless in trimming, so I'm sure it'll shrink. But not, y'know, in half, so it's going to be frelling long. And will be the longest Jeremiah fic ever, I'm sure. But boy have we had a blast writing it! Who knew I could produce like this? And actually finish it, more to the point. Awesome.

A short primer on Jeremiah

It was a two-year series on Showtime (used to be right after SG-1 when SG-1 was on Showtime), starred Luke Perry and Malcolm Jamal-Warner (and more importantly to me, Peter Stebbings (aka Malek)). The premise of the show was that a castrophic disease killed off every adult, leaving only the children to struggle in the world left behind afterward. The series starts when those kids are grown (about 15 years later).

The series is basically about the struggle between our heroes and their fragile attempt to rebuild what had fallen, and other people's attempts to stop them. The series has its flaws, I have to admit (namely glacial pacing in some eps and some cheapness that shows up occasionally), but I love the characters and the premise. Since it was also filmed in Vancouver, it has a ton of actors that show up on SG-1 or Galactica or the rest of the shows that film up there so that's also kinda fun. Part of their standing set is also the gateroom redressed. That whole similarity is what prompted this whole crossover thing in the first place -- it was just too obviously an AU to SG-1 universe.

But no one's going to have to know anything about the series for our fic, since it's told from SG-1's perspective, and they obviously don't know anything about this world they stumble into. So don't worry, you can still read it! (g)

Re: A short primer on Jeremiah

I think I heard of a book or series of books with a similar premise... Or maybe I heard of the show and just didn't connect the name I don't know. Either way thanks for the info and I'll have to get reading soon.

Re: Just wondering...

hee, impatient much? :)

We're re-writing the ending at the moment. And then it has to go to beta, so not, um, tomorrow or anything really soon. But we were planning to make the Tok'ra list our guinea pigs first readers. So don't worrry, you'll hear about it when it's ready. :)
