Over 10,000 words now, because my crazy knows no bounds apparently.

I bought the track of the Hymn from Hunt for Red October,because the big sweeping track in Ark of Truth reminded me of it, and I remembered I have no copy of it anymore. iTunes didn't have the actual soundtrack so I got the track with the best sound quality I could find from the samples of the compilations. And, lo and behold, it's in English. Which, weirds me out. Because it should be in Russian. I know it in Russian (not because I know diddly Russian, I just used to listen to it that much -- it's one of my favorite soundtrack choral pieces).

I also found some other interesting pieces -- After I break the coding into mp3's I'll do a soundtrack share thing. I think there are others who like soundtracks who might enjoy some of the pieces.

is that the piece all the submariners sing? If so i love that track. have been looking for it or the soundtrack album for ages but can't find it over here.

You may be thinking of the Soviet anthem, which IIRC the actors sing when they're waiting to be rescued? (It's been awhile since I've seen the movie) The piece I'm thinking of plays over the opening credits and fades out (and then gets repeated, without the vocals, in several of the 'big' moments later on, and possibly in the end titles).

But I'll put the piece I have (the Russian version- the English one is just TOO WEIRD) in a share post in a few days and you can check it out and see if that's the one.
