cynthia_arrow who requested the other side of the Quadrangle of DOOOOM. This is set during Crossroads and written quickly, to get it out of my frakkin' head. Sorry about the unbeta'd briefness of it all.
Semi Sequel to All The Fun,which is Sam/Dee post-UB. It's SO pretty. *sigh*
When she left their quarters, Dee wandered for a little while, trying to walk off the anger. She ended up in the hall and headed for ... Of course. Where else would she end up?
She sighed and looked at the smiling picture of Kara, and had to smile back, just a little, remembering happier times.
She turned her head at the sound of footsteps, and saw Sam coming her way. He hesitated, seeing where she was, but came over instead. She was pleased to see he'd gotten off the crutches and just had a bit of a limp remaining.
She moved over to let him stand in front of the picture if he wanted. "Hi," she greeted. "I'll let you be."
"No, that's okay," he murmured and his hand brushed her shoulder to keep her there. "It's not like I have a monopoly or anything. She was your friend too."
"Yeah." She didn't add that it had been ... before. Sam knew that. "But that's not why I came here." She looked at the picture and confessed in a voice for only his ears, "I left Lee. He's going to help defend Baltar and I... well, it was the last straw, I guess."
She felt more than saw Sam glance at her, surprised. "I'm sorry to hear that," he said, and sounded like he meant it too.
"It's been a long time coming," she admitted, and this time she slipped a glance at him. His uniform tanks weren't that much different from the sleeveless shirts he'd worn before, but the sight reminded her what it had felt like to slide her hands all over those shoulders, bare arms, and broad chest. Just that once, she'd taken something that was Kara's and Kara had never even known about it.
He suddenly glanced down and caught her eyes. Maybe he saw something in her face, because a smile toyed with the corners of his lips. "You want to grab a drink?" he asked.
His blue eyes were bright with that same reckless sparkle she'd seen so often in Kara's, and she was pretty sure what 'a drink' meant - that's what she had invited him to do after the boxing match and they'd ended up with a whole lot more.
One of Kara's tags was still hanging around his neck, tangled with his own new ones. She'd heard the story of his drunken display on the hangar deck from Lee and Maggie, so she knew he wasn't over her at all. Did she really need to get involved with another man who was hung up on Kara Thrace?
But despite all that, feeling free and reckless herself, she answered, "Sure."
She followed Sam, knowing it wasn't going to mean anything and it wasn't going to last. But tonight she didn't need forever, only right now. If Sam did too, well.. who said they couldn't have a little fun?

I love that line. Dee should get her due.

That's right, Dee, honey. You go drag that boy somewhere and have your way with him. You need it just as much as he does. ;)

There's no bad there for her, is there?

I love these lines especially:
His blue eyes were bright with that same reckless sparkle she'd seen so often in Kara's, and she was pretty sure what 'a drink' meant
Because yes, they ARE so much alike and Sam is definitely pulling a Kara here, and:
Did she really need to get involved with another man who was hung up on Kara Thrace?
Sigh
And I like that it's free and reckless and not, like, degraded hate-sex or something. ;) Great job!

I like that she goes to the hall when she's frustrated and needs grounding, and I like that Sam goes there to be with Kara.
And this, you know already, is perfect: His blue eyes were bright with that same reckless sparkle she'd seen so often in Kara's
Thanks for letting me sidetrack you. I'm sidetracking myself, too, obviously. But I've had Algae planet in my head since last weekend when I rewatched that story arc with a friend, and I thought, holy shit look at all the pretty. It was enough to make me almost want to write femmeslash, even. :)

yeah, I don't know if this is necessarily GOOD for Dee; it reeks a bit of rebound and punishing Lee, but as long as she doesn't expect anything from Sam it's just a fling.
Thanks!
