heh, Dark Friend Socials. Yep, I'm afraid so. It came about because in one of the early books (I think Shadow Rising, but don't swear to it, it's been a loo-ong time), in the prologue, a whole bunch of Darkfriends get together and have a formal little to-do. Since fandom nicknames *everything* it became known as the Darkfriend Social, the DFS (many, many debates took place over exactly who was attending that little get-together). Thereafter it seemed natural that if any RJ fans actually got together in person, it was called a Darkfriend Social (not that we're all evil or anything). :)
Yes, you do have some catching up to do. :) But I'd strongly advise you spoil yourself as little as possible for the future novels. part of the great fun of WoT is trying to figure out all the pieces and prophecies and characters in disguise. But I can imagine it's quite intimidating looking at this massive series -- though on the good side, at least you haven't suffered through so many years of cliffhangers!
So, I didn't slip that past you about the sequel, did I? :) Well, there's a different fic coming first, but not for a little while, since it's so frelling long. But at least I started Road to Tartarus and I know what I want to do for it.
