My credit card bill may never be the same,

BUT

I have a new laptop!!! Given it has a 17" screen it's not so much a 'notebook'). but it's beautiful and it's fast and it has plenty memory. And look, I have already managed to set up wireless, install my virus stuff, make a recovery disk, and get back on LJ! :)

oh, and it's a Blu-ray player as well. *SQUEE* (now if only Universal will drop stupid HD DVD and put BSG on Bluray instead, oh would that be yummy)

I have named her Morwen, because she's black with a little silver. Yes, LotR naming conventions die-hard, heh. I very nearly named this one Sauron, but thought that might be tempting fate...

So, wheeeeeee!

Now to dl Firefox and all the other things I can't live without. And then - oh god- transfer my music files...

Haven't poked my nose at the music files yet. I think I know how to do it (in less than forever), I'm just worried I'll lose all my permissions on the protected files. That would suck.

That would def suck. At this point I would usually advise you but...I've got nothing.

Congrats on Morwen.

So, um, what the heck is the difference between HD and Blu-Ray?

From: [identity profile] lizardbeth-j.livejournal.com

Specifically, all I know is that Blu-ray was created by Sony and one of those disks can carry more information than a HD-DVD disk. More generally, the studios have been split on which format they support: some release on both, but some release only on one format or the other. It's been likened to the Betamax/VHS war - which Sony lost last time but it seems like they might be winning this time. Universal released BSG S1 only on HD-DVD, so I'm hoping they see the light and release it on my new format because it would be very pretty in high-def. *crosses fingers* (and as we know, I am all about the pretty... *g*)

yaaaaaaay!

And, er, Morwen conjures thoughts of practical witches with cats, for me...

that works too I suppose. *g* In Tolkien Morwen means = black-lady, so it fits. It was, among others, Theoden's mother's name.

/random Tolkien trivia.

Mwahah. Of course, the naming schemes at the Madhouse are all over the place. Roomie's scanner is Stryfe and her computer is (was?) Maddie, and the printer is Scott. The laptop is Captain Jack, and my mp3 player is Ianto, and--

There are others, and I'm sure we'll get Get Backers/Gintama names now she's gotten more into them. *g*

Squeee for your new computer. I'm getting jealous of all these new computers my friends are getting ;)

Love the LOTR computer names. My home computer is Eregion, and my husband's is Gondor. My office computer is Hobbiton. Other office computers are Bree and Fangorn. Are we seeing a pattern? hee
