1. I have a master's in Medieval History. I don't "use" it, but I still have many texts and keep an interest, especially in the aspects I like for world-building (how people lived, how they built, and how they ruled themselves).

2. I took a year of Japanese in college. All that's left of it is my ability to pick out the interrogatives and other grammatical forms. So when someone speaks this is what I can understand: "blah blah - possessive -- blah blah -- verb past tense -- question?" I have NO vocabulary.

3. The barristas at my local coffee place know me by name and what I drink. (no foam, non-fat mocha latte)

4. I'm an only child.

5. My mom, on the other hand, was one of eleven. I have about twenty cousins, and I wouldn't recognize any of them if they passed me on the street.

6. When the Rugrat was born the OB discovered that the umbilical cord had a literal KNOT in it. I have a picture of it, and it's rather scary to imagine what might have been if he had simply turned the wrong way in utero.

7. Last, a true family story: One side of my family were Baptists in Prussia. This was not altogether a comfortable religion for them to have there in the early-mid 19th Century, so the family and a whole bunch of co-religionists de-camped and headed for that great bastion of religious tolerance..... the Ukraine. They spent less than twenty years there, and then they all left the Ukraine and came to the U.S. to live with other German speakers in Wisconsin.

And I'm not tagging people. That meme is not the boss of me!

No wonder your mom only wanted one, being one of eleven! I was an only until I was almost ten, so I can't imagine having that big of a family, though I wouldn't trade my one sister for anything in the world. It's sort of a funny split screen view of the world though, since I've basically got the personality of an only, but not quite.

Interesting list of facts! ;>)

yeah, my poor mom was sort of burned out on the whole sibling thing. :) Worse, not only was she one of eleven, EIGHT of them were brothers and she used to take care of the youngest brothers. So I think she was so glad to have a girl, she just stopped right there.

I had a difficult time trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up so my higher education is littered with weird classes and degrees. :)

Good to see you back on line!
