I did jury duty last yr. here its 2 weeks minimum. Though some ppl after 8 days of not being called got sent home.
I did 2 cases. First one - the case from hell actually - got thrown out after three days by the judge as no one could agree on the age of the victim at the time!!!
And the second one ... Why can't the UK have a verdict of not proven??? IE when you are convinced he knew what he was doing but the evidence just isn't strong enough. Not the same as a guilty and carry a sentence but enough to go on his record and warn him not to be so stupid again!
Its a strange system here. They call 15 of you to the court. The court usher then shuffles those 15 cards and calls the first 12 to the jury box. Then assuming you don't know the defendant those 12 get sworn in and the remainig 3 go back down to the jury lounge to go back in the pot. My name got picked first both times!!
