BSG: "Maelstrom" Part 2

On the thing which was spoiled back in December, but for those who still need protection:



After reading a whole bunch of other recaps/comments, I'm stunned by how many people really seem to believe Kara is not coming back. I thought it was set up rather anvilliciously, myself, that this is Part One of the Kara Thrace Cliffhanger of Destiny.

Every single previously mentioned "the Destiny".
The Oracle in the teaser mentioned it.
Her frakkin' mother mentioned it in the flashback-sequences.
The figurine of the Dawn.
The list goes on and on.

Her destiny is not to get exploded.

I know Ron and Co have a special geeky glee in "confounding the expectations of the t.v. medium" and shit like that, so there's an element of "oh lookie what we did, we're so cool." But I don't think that's all there is to it. "Flesh and Bone" way back in S.1 started us on this path, and now we've finally taken a major step there. Finally. I'm not all that fond of predestination in my sci-fi (and I'm still hoping for a more real-world, non-Magickal explanation), but I guess if I had the choice I'd rather all of it GO someplace than just keep getting talked about.

I don't know what Part Two of the Kara Thrace Cliffhanger of Destiny is going to be. I hope it's cool. It might be lame. After fandom goes through and writes up four thousand different ways Kara Can Come Back, it'll probably seem lame, no matter what it is. But there are plenty of open doors -- the "raider", the ejection seat lever so carefully brought into focus, the aborted S&R mission... Or ignoring those obvious ones to do something with the "between life and death" theme they've set up. Or maybe she won't know either. She'll just be back and the RTF will think she's a Cylon, even though she's not.

Whatever. However it plays out, she'll be back. Her story is in abeyance for a little while, but it's not over.

Oh, one last thought to ponder -- One thing Skiffy has shown time and time again is that they're not afraid to cut their losses. With a show enough 'on the bubble' as Galactica was, they'd need some proof that a S.4 wouldn't be a waste of their money in order to renew. Either the season finale is THAT frakkin whoa, and/or Kara comes back in S4 (preferably both) -- the channel needs something to promote when the show comes back, and more exciting labor disputes wouldn't cut it.

So, that's my take on it. And pretty much the only thing that'll change my mind is finding out that Katee has another job. Until then, for me it's 'Hasta la vista, baby', not goodbye.

I doubt Katie has another job, as they made her sign a non-disclosure agreement about what happens to Kara. If Kara character was just going to disapear they wouldn't have needed the non-disclosure since after last night it wouldn't matter.

I was kind of psyched about some of the Sharon and Helo bits we got. The fact that Hera is having nightmares, that Sharon was in on analyzing the gun camara video and Helo still has CIC duty.

As much as I'm all ... don't even know the word... about last night's episode and really not liking Kara being dead. I don't necessarily think it's final, so I agree with everything you are saying. I'm just ... bleh, lol.

One day, when I'm not hysterically amused at the newest spoilers (OH COME ON, I've been reading comics for years, Ron, TRY HARDER TO WANK), I will try to explain why I hated the episode, which really felt like yet more filler.

I think I figured out how I missed the dog tag. Naked Kara.
