Wow. I am very happy that SciFi showed the first two together, it strengthened the impact and tied everything together much better than if they'd left us hanging after part one.
This 'movie' kept my hubby glued to his seat, in spite of himself. HA! I rule!
I probably shouldn't do this until after I watch it again, but... too bad.
I think I'll just do this by character, because I can't tell you at the moment where the split was between the two eps to talk about them in any kind of chronological order.
Helo and Sharon. SQUEE! "Sharon Agathon." Yes! And yay for Sharon and Adama having a very friendly conversation. And Helo and Sharon kiss! And Helo looks awesomely hot and in control of things as XO. And I love, LOVE the Sharon-Anders hug, too. "I haven't seen you in so long." "Well, I see you everyday." Snerk! (oh, and Anders' counter-sign? "C-Bucs rule" LOL!)
Kara. Killed me. OMG, talk about living a nightmare. Leoben pushing and pushing, and coming back over and over again in his little fantasy set up. Her gilded cage with her psycho torturer. Shudder. Til he finally found a lever that worked on her. Or at least that's how I read it. I don't think she was playing him at the end, she had just found the end of her rope. That isn't to say though that as she regains her equilibrium, she can't play him later, though. Interesting that there were no Leoben models at the Grand Council of the Cylons. Heck, they dug up Simon for that one, but all the Leobens were off being scary stalkers, I guess. Kasey -- Cybrid? Human orphan? Model Thirteen? Cute little girl though.
Anders. Hot. mmm... sorry. I really liked him here (and okay, yes, biased, because -- HOT, but anyway). He was one of the Big Three, where Tyrol and Tigh accepted his experience, and he used it. He was focused, even fixated on the strategy. I'm not sure, but I don't remember him objecting to Tigh's plans. He didn't look super approving, but I don't think he spoke up against them, either, as Tyrol did. I suspect, given how he was with Duck (oh, Duck!) that he'd sent one of his team off to get killed before. This is his response to Kara's disappearance-- he's not going to wilt away in grief, he's going to get even.
He is however, extremely lucky, given that D'Anna/Three, Cap Six and Boomer all knew that he was a member of the Caprican Resistance that he didn't get himself dragged off to detention from the start. They didn't learn his name in Downloaded, but it wouldn't be hard to put it together, if one of the Cylons saw him or remembered that he had Kara's tags down in the cellar.
I'm now tempted to do a PneumoniaBoy!Anders dealing with Kara's abduction fic, because --oh the angst!
The Family Tigh -- Ellen, sigh. Tough place. She couldn't refuse Cavil's order for info, because Saul would go back to detention. I get that. But I do think she could've said something to Saul and Co, and maybe they could've worked some misinformation. That would be risky, but at least they'd have a chance, rather than passing the real info over. But whether she could play that role plausibly (I mean Ellen with Cavil, not the actress), I don't know. Maybe she figured she couldn't.
The Family Tyrol -- First, something small. Does Galen seriously not know Gaeta is the source? Because, uh, who else could it be, dude?
I read the confrontation as him frustrated with Cally's abduction and Gaeta's offer of 'information', but I've seen others read it as him not knowing. So, rewatch, I guess.
Cally (um, Jane? Is that her first name? I forget): she is very agressive when she and her family are threatened, isn't she? Even when it might be smarter to tone it down (with Boomer). But Boomer was being kinda weaselly, really, so I don't blame Cally all that much. It would be highly ironic if Cally stumbles into the resistance and Sharon kills her before realizing who it is. Payback of a sort.
Gaius Baltar: hm, he has no moral backbone, but we knew that. He tried, there for a second, but thanks to Chip!Six's oh-so-timely appearance, he folded. Big surprise.
Along similar lines, that exchange between Roslin and Zarek was awesome: "You tried to steal the election, didn't you?" "Yep." "Wish you'd gone through with it." "Me, too." I don't particularly like either of them, (since both of them have very malleable moral backbones as well) but that was wellplayed.
The Family Adama:
Now, I'm not a Dee-hater by any imagination. I am sorry they let down her character in 2.5, but I dont' mind her being married to Lee. And these two eps showed me why. Was she not awesome calling him on his shit? Almost as awesome as Papa Adama doing it first. (And does anybody know why Kandyse (Candice) McClure decided to change the spelling of her name or was it a mistake? Not that I care really, but she's been "Kandyse" in things for quite awhile now.)
Fat!Lee is just great, on so many levels.
oh gosh, I have had this window open for a frakkin' age and with all the interruptions, have completely now lost my train of thought and what else I wanted to comment on. I'm too tired for any deeper thinky stuff so I'll save it for another post.
There was one more thing -- I've now seen it twice, and the beginning of 3x02 still weirds me out. The first shot of Jammer totally reminds me of Billy. First time I saw it, I was sure it was Billy and that he was a Cylon. Freaky.
On a non-character level, I'll just note there were some gorgeous FX and set decoration in this. Lovely eye-candy (of the non-human sort). :)

As far as Boomer is concerned, I think she will have to decide on where she stands and then make a choice. Right now it seems she is stuck in the middle again. I hope she makes the right choice, and from what we know her motivations are it appears that she would and side with the resistance and the humans, but we will have to see.

But I suppose from a structural point of view, the writers don't want us believing that all the Eights are "human-like" or potential allies, so it makes sense to give us one who is an ally of the Fleet and one who isn't. I would just like to believe that the original Boomer's personality is still there and that she realizes the occupation is wrong and gone completely off the rails. Maybe she'll help the evacuation somehow.
Was that not the best little scene with Helo and Sharon when she was wearing the uniform? LOVED it.

DO IT! OMG! DO IT!
Cally (um, Jane? Is that her first name?)
Before getting married, her name was Cally Henderson. Jane came from the novelization of the miniseries and the guy got it wrong. :P

I couldn't remember which way 'round it was and was way too lazy to go look it up. Figured somebody would correct me if I messed it up. :D

It will be interesting to see where they take Boomer. I just think at heart she is "human" and in the end will make a choice to help the humans however she can
