Yeah, I think the Reaper was killed by the demon. I think the demon's powers trump whatever the Reaper possesses and that's why she/it was in so much pain and so surprised at what happened. And I'm not convinced that John is dead, although I'm just about certain that he sold his soul in return for Dean's.
