So you know, I do count as a Castle fan, and also was a watcher of the original V way back when.
Anyhow: the John May segments work very well indeed, and I like the dynamic in the reunion sequence.
The Castle dynamic is...a little odd. This looks to be a Castle who's accepted Kate/Tom as a couple, which is in some contrast to the last episodes of Season 2, where he and Tom are definitely competing for her attention. OTOH, crossover logistics being what they are -- and given that you've tagged this as a prequel to new-V -- I can see it as a plausible AU, in which the Kate/Tom meeting and bonding takes place rather earlier than it does in the canon-Castle timeline.
And with that twist, the rest of the Castle elements pretty much fall into place, and this is coming along nicely.
