Today's fannish plan

RIP Creamsicle, one of our three goldfish, this morning. Poor little dude - he's been fading for days. :(

Today I will work on Black Sails, and also try to lay out my plot for my NaNo project.

this was last year's poll with descriptions of my four ideas.

I think I've decided to do the modern romantic thriller idea with genre elements. The three fantasy ideas are more problematic: one is too large to deal with in NaNo (and possibly the Dragons in the East thing is too reminiscent of GoT these days. It wouldn't be the same, but still) One is part of a world I created with others which makes it legally un-doable and therefore pointless to rewrite. The third I have a draft for it that I'd completely replot and redo but I'm just not enthused about it enough.

But thrillers mean hardcore structure and plot. Which since I don't actually KNOW the whole plot, means I better get to figuring it out! I don't even know my female lead well enough since I kind of want her to do incompatible things.

And I'm also trying to decide whether writing it as a fanfic AU (which is what it started out as) or stripping that out from the beginning (i.e. changing the names) will make it quicker/easier to write.

Okay - I just LOVE that you are doing this! And it doesn't surprise me in the LEAST because you are so epic! *cheers for you* I cannot wait to read what you write (and publish... so that I can brag I knew you when).

I um... thought I was the only one who did this. The ONLY fic I ever pulled offline was for this exact reason. I haven't finished altering it yet, but it's there.

I vote #1. Obvsly.

It might be easier in the short term to keep the same names, but in the long term, you can't rely on your readings knowing the emotional/descriptive short-hand for "Kara and Sam flirt all the time and have sex. A lot."

ok. Maybe not emotional per se.

But that is a thing. That we take some short-cuts when writing fanfic that you can't take in original fiction.

Ooh. Good luck with this. I think some free writing or sketching might help with the thriller plot...but also you could just see where it goes as you write and then go back shape things together as needed.

but yeah, I'm thinking the fanfic names might get in the way of re-characterizing them. Not just that they have to stand on their own, but I might be tempted to keep them in their canon boxes, when they have to be able to develop naturally. Though I'm sure you and anyone else who knows, will be able to see the roots, no matter what I do. :)

oh no, you are definitely not the only one. I know there are profic novels out there with the serial numbers on the fanfic rubbed out. And my Option Two in the poll is actually a huge AU of Babylon 5 which I wrote and never put on line either.

I usually keep the plot in my head as i write (I 'discover' it - to an extent, though I also generally have some kind of general idea of how it all goes), but this one's definiitely going to require a bit more effort in the plotting department.

No I'm like that to. I used to write a lot of sketches and plot points when I was writing original stuff but have gotten out of that since I started writing fanfic
