"I'm going to the sea," Valen tells them that morning and he makes it clear he will walk alone. His rangers dislike it, but the war's over, and the clans and castes are finally at peace, so they scout the area and then give in. Valen bows his head to them all, tells them simply that they must continue the work, and he walks down the crushed stone path. He passes over the sand dune and out of sight. A few minutes later, the rangers peek over the ridge. The beach is empty as far as the eye can see. They look everywhere, but the sand is bare of footprints and the sea is calm.
When asked what happened to Valen, the Minbari from then on answer, "He went to the sea." But what they mean is: "No one knows."
