I suppose plotless soft-core porn on Starz AfterDark is out of the question? yes? So instead, how about my far-too-hot cast be actually ... inhuman?
The Other Side is an urban fantasy about Bridget, a human who tries to bring a killer to justice and discovers a hidden world of secrets and magic, when she meets the ageless Others and becomes drawn into their intrigues. It's slow-motion warfare among enemies who know each other well, with humans as their pawns. But Bridget is a wildcard in this very old game and may upset hundreds of years of machinations and immortal ennui. She'll need the support of her family and her partner, to face the enemies of humanity. But if she's determined enough, she could remind those who live forever what it means to be alive.
Summary:
Bridget discovers the Others exist, and slowly gets to meet all of them. At first, she thinks it's pretty amazing - they're immortal, they have magic, how cool is that? - but then realizes that most of them don't care -- not about the man who died, not about humans at all, and some about nothing at all. Even Saskia and Kevin, the 'best' of them, do their jobs, mostly as a way to check Terrell's schemes not because the people matter. Saskia is sure to tell her all about his power and influence her refuses to wield, and Bridget is frustrated by his attitude, convinced that he could stop these predations if he wanted. Kevin realizes she's going to get herself in trouble, and finds himself wanting to protect her. When she's glamoured to forget everything, Liam realizes he doesn't actually want that. But she remembers him anyway and the spell fails. Terrell decides against killing her, knowing it will push Liam to be his enemy, but she must keep their secret or they will ALL be in very big trouble.
"the Others" are, basically, elves/Tuatha de Dannan/Sidhe (Kevin and Mae are an Asian branch of the same people, and the Others themselves make no distinction, as their outer forms are all glamoured anyway). Only a portion are on Earth, living among humans, and the rest (including their court) are in the Underverse. There is no permanent Seelie/Unseelie division - there are clans and alliances and eternal feuds. But they all know each other well and very little surprises them anymore, among each other or humans. But Bridget does surprise them, and push them out of complacency and boredom. Her powers are something new (something old, thought lost), and make her a player. She's not a kid, she has family, so it's important to her to figure out what's important and safe.
And.... I realized belatedly that this is probably close to 'Lost Girl', which I still haven't seen but I have heard the premise with the Fae running around in the city. *sigh* Damn it, real tv stop getting in the way of my fake tv!
Obviously this is influenced by every urban fantasy ever (esp quasi-political ones like Kindred), but still, I'm kind of in love with it at the moment. I might chuck all four other ideas for NaNo and do it instead, because I hate letting all this thinking go to waste!
So here's The Deal:
You post a comment on this entry. In return, I will give you a list of seven actors. (I may look at your profile for a refresher on your fandoms, so consider this a perfect time to update your Interests section!) Then YOU will go back to your LJ and do a quickie show bible. The show bible includes:
* A one-paragraph blurb on what the show is about (like you get in TV Guide)
* What character each actor is playing (you don't need character names, but you do need a description
* For extra credit, a sketch of a plot arc or two OR a couple of two-sentence teasers for first-season episodes.
If you choose to cast a few more "roles" in your write-up, all the more awesome!
Then you post The Deal at the end of your entry, and for anyone who comments on your post and wants to play, give them a list of seven actors.

The Other Side
Detective Bridget Ferguson (Kristen Cloke) thinks it's a homicide like any other. But there's a strange shadow around the corpse that only Bridget can see. As she probes deeper into the victim's life and death, she uncovers a world inside her own, where the deathless play with the mortal and ancient magic hides in the city lights.

Characters | |
![]() | Detective Bridget Ferguson (Kristen Cloke) --- lead investigator. Practical and smart, she can't deny the truth of what she sees. Empathetic toward the dead and victims, she's a single mother of a seven-year old girl. Her grandmother warned her that the ancient blood is strong in her veins. Bridget never believed her until she saw the corpse with the strange dark aura around it. |
![]() | Det. Kevin Lim (Daniel Dae Kim) -- Bridget's partner. More reticent and skeptical of what Bridget senses -- or at least he seems to be, trying to protect her from finding out the truth. But he's one of them, and he may be Bridget's only ally. |
![]() | Terell (Cliff Simon) -- Crime lord. He is also duke of the Others, enjoys debauchery and using his powers to get what he wants. He thinks of humans as vaguely amusing pets, but does like modern Earth quite a bit. |
![]() | Saskia Sharapova (Mira Furlan) -- by day, a prosecutor. She's been a friend of Bridget's for years. Secretly, leader of the opposition to Terrell and once she learns of Bridget's new ability, it's a struggle not to see Bridget as her pawn to defeat him at long last. |
![]() | Mae (Grace Park) -- Kevin's sister. Enjoys toying with everyone around her in her immortal ennui. Dangerous, playful, and ruthless, she's manuevering to try to take power. |
![]() | Liam (Michael Trucco) -- Once the greatest warrior of his people, now fallen into weariness and dissolution. He wants no part of the ancient conflict, but it won't leave him alone. |
![]() | Marcus (JR Bourne) -- Takes a hardline against the humans finding out the truth. He's Terrell's second/enforcer, but he'd follow his old leader Liam into hell if Liam said the word. |
