I have an invite for anyone who'd like to join the Open Beta phase for An Archive of Our Own , a fan-run, all-pairings, all-fanfic archive run by the Organization of Transformative Works.
I personally dislike how fanfic has become centralized on LJ -- LJ is okay for posting fic, but it's terrible for finding fic, especially if you get into an "old" fandom. And ff.net is problematic because of their restrictions (among other things - but no open archive will get rid of the bad fic). So AO3 has started to create an archive more friendly to Fandom (as a whole - all of fandom, including Bandom, RPF, Adult-ratings, etc). Also, Yuletide will be moving to AO3 this year to accommodate all the newbies.
So, if you haven't yet, you should go check out the archive. It's building slowly. And if you're a writer looking for a place to archive, in a place that wants to keep it safe from take-downs and C&D letters and busybody parents who think sex in fic is of the devil, then let me know.
ETA: Sorry, sleeping East Coasters. Taken! But do check out the archive, it's pretty cool.
