They don't give presentations to advertisers too far in advance, since they (the advertisers) are there to buy slots for the upcoming season. There also has to be something to show, like animations, concept designs, some kind of trailer to give a taste of what the show will be like. They probably haven't cast it yet or have more than the basic bible of the show and the pilot script (I doubt Sci-Fi would approve it without those), but it's not all that far off. My guess would be January, but if they move quickly it could show up with BSG's S.3 premiere in Oct (and might be the reason S.3 is so delayed).
But yes, you're totally right that the channel has a lot of faith in BSG to commit to a series off the bat, instead of just buying a miniseries first. It'll be interesting to see how they do it and if they can carry it off without turning it into 'Dynasty with Robots' or a painfully slow version of Terminator 3. I'm curious to see who they'll cast as a young Bill Adama, since we all know what EJO looked like as a fairly young man.
