oh [livejournal.com profile] yuletide....

I have to admit a part of my fun this year and last has been playing whack-a-mole and going around researching the fic strength of various fandoms. Because I am a research geek at heart. (And since Babylon 5 is still banninated, I really have no compunction about trying to bounce fandoms that are bigger and more active, even if I like them).

But c'mon people, WICKED? On what planet is fic for it rare or the fandom obscure? Or "Criminal Minds"? Seriously, do people even bother to look if these fandoms exist? Last year I crushed High School Musical -- you might have heard of it. Just because 99.9% of the fic is crap doesn't mean there's no fandom. I'm sort of surprised no one tried to sneak in Twilight this year.

And I seriously wonder how many of these gazillion fandoms people are actually going to request fic in? I mean, it's one thing to want more fic in some particular source material (because we'd all like to READ fic that expands our favorite series), and quite another to come up with any kind of prompt....

You know, one of the things that put me off yuletide was the fact that there were so many fandoms (though if I remember right My Little Pony was listed, haha) and I was like "huh? what?" And scared to death I'd get one that I completely messed up. :(

There is a fandom not on the list but no one has every heard of it. It has about 6 stories on ff.net. Alas.
