Ugh. I saw an ad for this and I find it... repulsive. For a mere 8500 dollars you can own a watch made with metal looted from the Titanic.

Nice.

I am *seriously* offended by this, as is MrsMDJ. Just what graveyard are they going to loot next? <_<

Makes me wonder whether Ballard would have bothered if he had known this kind of thing would happen.

Having heard him interviewed, I would say, "probably not" unless the money were going to something useful, like battered women's shelters.

Oh my...

This is really weird. How can someone can even think abotu doing this? People died in there.

Considering the first thing he did even before he revealed that he'd found it, was put a sign on it "Please respect the graves here", I'm sure he suspected this sort of thing would happen. Sadly, these tawdry things aren't the only thing looted, just the most commercial. :(

Unbelievable. I wish the Titanic had never been found. I guess the USS Arizona will be next.

yeah, that was sort of my thought (Challenger earrings! GREAT!) Luckily there are laws that prevent the Arizona and things like it from being looted - there's little law that stops people from taking stuff from the Titanic. There's just the dive itself. And good taste, which clearly this company is lacking. :(
