Yeah, Baltar was freaking me out too. It was only on rewatch that I laughed at those scenes - but laugh I did. <3 Callis.
I'm kinda weirded out by the fact that Helo and others take it for granted that of course they'll tell the Cylons where Earth is. Some refuge, huh?
I do think the writers are turning the Jesus story on its head with Baltar, much as Ron denies it. His justification for the Flood does read as a facile self-justification on his part and a horrifying philosophy - and you're right, the opposite of what Elosha was preaching. But OTOH, didn't they just wipe out a whole bunch of Cylons in order to rejuvinate the race, and we're supposed to be onboard with that? Hmm.
What's even more interesting to me is wondering if he's really following the Cylon God. Because if so, then the Cylon God is a force for destruction.
*nods* Yeah, head!Six's approval combined with the miracles would tend to make me think so. Which is a little scary! Since his agenda seems to be "save humanity by wiping out polytheism" - in one draft they even had Baltar name that as the reason for the genocide. So I guess the hope that the Cylons were "just misunderstanding" may not work out...

Or in other words, is there one neutral force/deity at work? Or two, working to cross-purposes?
I think if the Cylon God turns out to be 'real' in whatever sense, the other Lords of Kobol will too, in whatever sense - so maybe a bunch of forces, in at least two camps?
I don't know about the Five. I want them to not be forces for destruction! I think you go with whatever interpretation you want, cause I don' want to have to wait 'till '09 for your seekrit project. ;)
