I have a pet theory about Baal. Everyone always remembers Apophis' poor terrified host from Serpent's Song, and what little we know from former hosts. But I wonder if it's always like that. What if you had a host who was ALREADY arrogant and a touch sociopathic? I think Baal (the goa'uld) would enjoy that quite a lot, and over the years, they basically blended into one being. Sort of the reverse of the Tok'ra, who apparently keep a fairly sharp delineation between the two entities, what if there was no separation at all? Baal has always seemed one of the more "human" of the Goa'uld, with his adaptability and how he doesn't quite buy into the Goa'uld propaganda, while being able to use it to suit his needs.

This came about because I was fanwanking after Ex Deus why Baal would EVER bother to clone his host as well as the symbiote. It raised the chances of getting discovered (and while he did have arrangements for that eventuality, they were only necessary because he had multiple copies of the same host in the first place). So one of the things I came up with was that he no longer feels like "Baal" without the host's input as well. (later, obviously, we do see the symbiote on its own, but only where it's necessary to his plan). If this is true, the host would still be "Baal", after Continuum.

So I'm sort of in love with the idea of him still being crafty and manipulative - Crying a few crocodile tears over all the terrible things he's done, getting Vala in bed with him, and then going on his merry way to build himself an empire again, after everyone was fooled into thinking he was harmless.

- cool. Let me know what you think of the other fics!
