Yes, we watched Criminal Minds last night instead of Katee. (and boy, is that an hour of battling programs or what? -- no wonder NBC promoted the hell out of BW) But, I figured, I have a million ways to catch up to BW and probably none to watch how Mandy Patinkin gets written out of Criminal Minds, so, it was a pretty easy choice really. It doesn't sound like I missed a whole lot.



I did read one Interesting comment on BW over at... AICN, I think it was. Somebody went ranting for several paragraphs about how unrealistic the setup was. Dude, she has nanobots making her into a killing machine; I think the fact that her boyfriend's extra secret project has 'spare parts' lying around and excess funding ranks somewhere way down the probability chain. Like my dad says about genre stuff, "buy the premise, buy the story." Willing suspension of disbelief is just that, an act of will. If you don't have it, fine, but don't go off on the need for it like it makes the show horrible.

It reminds me of when I was on my year-abroad in college, in Scotland. A group of us from the dorm went out to see Kenneth Branagh's Dead Again (the whole premise of the movie is reincarnation). Many of us came out saying it was cool and romantic and exciting, etc. But this one girl, in the sweetest Northern Ireland accent you can imagine, frowns at all of us in complete befuddlement, and she asks, "But it isn't very likely, is it?"

Her innocent (yet funny) question has stuck with me for years now. I remember it whenever I'm talking with or about non-genre fans. There are people who just don't and won't ever get it. They're not being elitist (like some are), they're confused about why anyone would want to watch shows or read stories about things that don't exist. That mindset is so alien to me. heh, alien.

And now I really have to do SOMETHING on my reel_sg1 fic. I just can't get into it, or any other writing this week, at all.

Heh. Imagine that. Bionic Woman is unrealistic. O_o

I wish could be other than at work. I have a Farscape fic due in *checks calendar* 3 days and I'm not done yet. It seems I have too many words in my head that just don't want to leave. I have notes on what the meat of the fic is to be and it's a really simple concept, but I've already written a good 2k and haven't really even gotten to the set-up yet. *headdesk* It's flowing, but it's flowing on a really strong tangent. :P

OH! And dude! Scotland??? *sigh* So jealous. My husband and I got engaged in a castle in Scotland (Borthwick, to be exact), but we only spent two weeks there. I so wanted to stay.

All thoughts on 'likelihood' aside--

I still stand by my comments that Bionic Woman is an ill-concieved project on account of the 'creator's' blatant disregard for the source material it sprange from. Whether or not it's 'unrealistic' or 'an unlikely story,' the there's the simple fact that this project was undertaken out of arrogance-- and Eick did blatantly state that he HADN'T seen the source material, nor did he have any respect for the original creators (why not put it under a different title if it's gonna be that far flung than the original if the original SUCKED THAT BAD?)-- and this idea that no matter what they farted out, they'd be successful with it because, lol, they did it better.

I will admit that, in spite of what I've enjoyed out of BSG, I kind of hope that this show tanks simply to give Eick an everyone else a wicked slap on the wrist for pulling this. It also gives me very little hope for The Thing companion piece that Moore is penning (The Thing is EASILY one of the best films to come out of the 1980's, and THE BEST body horror/paranoia/ensemble film of all time)... but I'm crossing my fingers that he's not nearly as full of himself as Eick seems to be... else we'll watch a TRUE classic get a big pile of crap dropped on it.

I'm alright with remakes-- but whenever I think of the films and TV series' that I love, the LAST thing I want to hear from someone who wants to remake it is 'Oh, I never actually paid attention to that-- I just think I could make the premise better!'

So there's my beef, petty though it may seem. It just sets a VERY crappy precident.
