Doctor Who and Trucco

I have finally now officially caught up on all Eleventh Doctor eps. I had tried to watch Cold Blood when I DVR'd it from a marathon on BBCA a few weeks back but something happened in the broadcast/recording so the picture kept downgrading and pixelating into unwatchability. So I had to find it another way. ahem.

Cold Blood ... THE ONE WHERE RORY DIES. oh wait....let me narrow it down a little...

poor bbs. But um, it kinda makes me lol Poor Rory becoming the Kenny of DW. But I think that's why his leveling up into a badass struck so fiercely in 'A good man goes to war.' He's a character who became a joke (a nice and competent lovely fella, but still Rory was a meme and a joke), and then suddenly, NOT. I mean, really, how can you not love a dude who puts on a Roman outfit AND CARVES HIS WAY THRU A ZILLION CYBERMEN AND is there on the command center to kick ass or chew gum, and HE'S ALL OUT OF GUM? Seriously. Does it get more deliberately Crowning Moment of Awesome? No. It does not.

Anyway, back to the Lizard People eps. Made me think about how much it has to suck For the Doctor after that to hold onto the secret of Rory's existence, esp as Amy sort of rememebrs once in a while, and then of course, what he has to hold back from River. Obv he's more used to it, but still, suckage.

Though of course it does make my head hurt, because River still existed while Rory, at least in theory, didn't and had never existed. Though otoh, I suppose River was born after the universe was rebooted, and the River we see in Silence/Pandorica is actually from the Rebooted Universe, not the one in which Rory was dead even though she was physically IN that universe.

Though if it's just a memory thing and not an actual physical erasure...? I suppose that's what they imply with the ring still existing.. So physical artifacts would continue to exist - the ring, all the people he'd helped in the past wouldn't suddenly lose his help, so thye'd continue to exist, his sperm... lol

(there was a break for sleeping and I lost my train of thought... PARDON THE RAMBLING)

I remember I had some sort of thought about how Amy and Rory seein themselves ten years later meant something especially in the context for how the Doctor insisted that peace w/the Silurians was an opportunity that could change the future but now I lost it, so whatev. Maybe it'll come back to me.

And in far less serious business stuff, it's Michael Trucco's Birthday today.

41 fabulous years of ever-increasing handsomeness and wonderfulness.

(I mean, seriously, I've never heard a bad word. He gets along with everybody, is unfailingly awesome at cons, funny as hell, still madly in love with his wife, and gets better-looking. HOW IS HE REAL? )

Here, have a gif and picspam from my Fuckyeahmichaeltrucco spam posts today.

and hey, this one actually worked, instead of the FAIL at FYMT. :/

May there be many many more!

PAR-TAY.

I figure things get stuck in the universe, so even if she shouldn't have existed, River still did.

Either that, or because she forgot him (not knowing to remember a part of her time-stream, after all, Amy *knew* and couldn't), that sort of, like, made it so she wasn't (omg it's probably just timey-wimey-handwavey-nonsense)

oh, you gave me the link before, I have it! Thank you! :D

and I think I may have asked for his Dr Quinn ep, but I found it. Did you ever locate any of his Pensacola stuff? There used to be a torrent for it but it's long dead. : I wish I'd understood torrenting better five years ago... :/

SPERM IS VERY PERSISTENT IN THE TIME-SPACE CONTINUUM

Rory's existence was erased so everything he ever did and all he were was erased too. However time travelers are protected somehow from such events. Like Amy remembering those soldiers that went into cracks. I think this effect is stronger the longer one is exposed. I think that's why River existed. Well, this and being partially Time Lady. I think Amy forgot Rory because she didn't want to remember he was dead more then anything.

Every reason is good for pretty people picspam but this is the bestest :DDD

[identity profile] lizardbeth-j.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
I think ... it makes some sense that time travelers are protected cuz they're basically freakish causality problems, so wiping them out completely is a hassle the universe probably just throws up its hands at and says, nope, you can pass. So the Doctor with 900 years of meddling is pretty safe, because he's nothing but a causality problem. River is one, too, and since her timeline impacts the Doctor's significantly, she'd be protected by that besides (if River didn't exist, he'd have died in her place in the library for one thing, which would've undone everything Eleven did) So obviously the effect has some limits when dealing with time travelers..

Anyway, musing aloud.. It's fascinating

and yes, it's a pretty happy reason for picspamming! :D

Amy continued to exist even though the crack in the wall had eaten her parents. Why shouldn't it also hold for River?

[identity profile] lizardbeth-j.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Which would line up with the idea that it's really only the memories that are erased - the person and their affects on the universe persist.

I have some kind of River theory still floating around in my brain that I keep stabbing at, and it won't quite gel. IT IS MOST ANNOYING

[identity profile] palmetto.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
At some point the Doctor says something about there still being echoes. Like the occasional stranger in a photograph, etc. Amy is the echo of her folks. Rory left the ring, a photo of him and Amy being dorks in costume, and his daughter~

:D

Only The LAST CENTURION would leave RIVER FREAKIN SONG as an echo...

Well, and River was born in a timeline before Rory didn't exist, and she has timey-wimey DNA special stuff going on, so she's okay with being a complicated space/time event. But it does explain why she didn't recognize him. Or maybe he's dead in the future D:

[identity profile] palmetto.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
She didn't recognize him because she didn't know she had to remember him. Even Amy forgot him when she lost concentration, and the Doctor was sitting right there in front of her face telling her to remember, remember, remember.

I have a feeling that if the Doctor had been elsewhere when it happened, he would have not remembered Rory as well. He's godlike, but not omniscient. .

[identity profile] leiascully.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
True!

Poor Rory. Good thing he got to be a costumed badass.

[identity profile] palmetto.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
It worked out in his favor in the end, anyhow! He is now not just a mild-mannered nurse, but also THE LAST CENTURION and if you hit his berserk button HE WILL KILL YOU DEAD.

Icon: his berserk button.

That's right! And he has a badass kid! So don't mess with the family Pond!

So much time-wimey special stuff! Multiple timelines.... BAH

I am clearly not a Time Lady because my brain tries very hard to understand and then decides playing with blocks is much better!
