WTF CBS?

AJ Cook is apparently going to be fired from Criminal Minds and Paget Breweter's role is being reduced. Supposedly for "financial reasons", which is the biggest load of crap I've heard from a network in a LOOOONG time.

I like Paget's Emily - she is competent and kickass and all those things, which are awesome. But Jennifer Jareau is ME. I don't think I could actually BE Emily, but JJ is someone who is also awesome, she's a mom, she does her job well, and she's still affected by the horrible things they see. She's the one tasked most often with dealing with the media and the victims' families, and brings it all to a human level that the profilers kind of don't have anymore.

I think the eps where she was on maternity leave show that the team is NOT THE SAME without her.

NOOOOOOOO. Well, CBS has already received an email from me this morning. It's a big fandom - hopefully it can mobilize on this.

eta: oh, and now they're saying it's a 'creative decision" and they're going to bring a new female castmember in at mid-season. Well, thanks so fucking much for NOTHING.

Please tell me you're kidding! JJ & Emily are two of the best characters on the frakkin' show! Actually, I prefer ALL of the female characters to ALL of the male characters (including Reid, who seems to be the fandom favorite.) Why would CBS be this stupid? More importantly, why would the show-runners allow this to happen?!

I'm hoping it's a mistake or someone floating the idea to see how people will react.

It looks as though it might be the showrunners' fault. There was a big shuffle at the end of last season, which I"m sure this is part of the fallout of that. :/

I like all the guys, too, generally, (except Rossi, who's pretty useless), but yeah, the show would suck without JJ and Emilly. I AM VERY GRUMPY ABOUT THIS.

I don't want the show to get rid of anyone but if they absolutely have to in order to cut costs (which I don't really buy to begin with) ITA that Rossi should be the one to go. IMHO, he's never really blended into the ensemble the way Emily did and I think he'd be the easiest one to phase out.

But the point is that this should be the LAST resort. Why not ask the entire cast to take a pay-cut or reduce the number of episodes? Or here's an idea: Don't do the spin-off! After the fairly boring pilot, interest in the spin-off went WAY down to the point where many fans have said they won't even watch it. There. I've just saved CBS all the money it'd need to keep AJ & Paget around full-time.

It'd be one thing if the actresses wanted to leave. I'd miss them but their characters already get much less screen-time than the male characters so it wouldn't surprise me if they wanted out. I still doubt I'd watch the show without them but I'd feel better knowing it was their decision and not something that was forced on them.
