Non story update post!

I get to be part of a Q&A with Bree Williamson tomorrow about her upcoming role on Haven. She was also on Gossip Girl, if any of you GG fans have a question you want me to ask her, let me know asap!

I also got permission to do a post on Trucco's mini-arc on HIMYM, when it's done. I meant it as a joke, and they're all 'sure!', so okay, that's an assignment I can live with. lol.

Yuletide nominations are live! OMG. I think I'll wait a bit and see what's nominated ahead of me (as best I can in the gdocs, anyway).

Avengers disk tomorrow (which is silly to be excited about because I HAVE most of it already. ahem. But yes) Also blatantly copy-pasting this HIddleston quote on Loki, because I need to have it, like, bronzed.

“I think every human being is capable of extreme virtue and extreme vice, and most of us live within quite a narrow range on a really broad scale,” Hiddleston said. “The biggest thrill for me about playing big characters is that they exist at the extremity of the scale. And the heroes end up saving the world, and the villains are trying to destroy it. … [Loki] just seems like a lost, damaged soul who was brought up believing in a particular truth, which is that he was entitled to rule. He was a born prince, and that one day he would be a king. And then he finds out that the entire narrative of his life is a lie, that he was adopted by Odin as the neglected, abandoned bastard son of their mortal enemies. And he feels so betrayed and so hurt by that, and that’s a very relatable thing.I think that’s a very easy thing to find the truth of.

“And then what he does, rather than getting some therapy, he gives way to his anger. He gives way to all of the feelings that are conjured up by his pain, basically hate and pride and vanity. It’s motivated by loneliness. His destructiveness is motivated entirely by his spiritual desolation and the fact that he has nowhere to belong. And because he doesn’t belong anywhere, he’s trying to make the earth belong to him. And I hope you can still see that somehow, even though he basically is hateful in this film.”

Hiddleston will reprise the role for next year’s sequel, “Thor: The Dark World,” directed by Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones”). Will Loki finally find redemption?

“I hope so, I really hope so,” Hiddleston said. “I hope you can see glimmers of it in ‘The Avengers.’ There’s a bit where we’re on the tower and Thor’s like, ‘Look around. You don’t have to do this.’ I think he’s probably going to get a hiding when he goes back home. I think his father’s going to have a few things to say. … Grounded for a long time. I haven’t read a script yet, but I know that we certainly can’t recycle what we’ve done. Loki, I think, has been about as bad as he can be.”

(The interview's from the spring, btw, but republished for the DVD release, but anyway, I just wanted to copy it someplace I can read it again. Because -- "spiritual desolation" COULD HE BE MORE FLAWLESS???).

Also, I wrote 1600 words of Thor 2 fic (not part of the UtS-verse) that's undoubtedly not where they're going, but um, seemed like a good idea at the time. And that was before I read the interview.

I also had an odd/interesting maybe idea for NaNo, since I like to do Original stuff for that but which also means I need to get moving on the other things.

Godsdammit, that stupid, perfect, FLAWLESS bastard. His eloquence slays me every time! I love it when he talks about Loki's 'spiritual desolation' in every bloody Avengers-related interview.

HOW DOES HE EXIST? I JUST DON'T EVEN.

Hahaha I started writing my Avengers fic in December 2011 - and then Tom and Chris Hems started repeating the same thoughts I'd had.

I'm also SQUEE about that quote, because there's a lot of douches on Tumblr who rip you to shreds if you suggest Thor was getting through to Loki at that moment. (PS where is that quote from?)

Yeah, it's a weird fandom in a way where even the Loki fans are kind of divided on the issue of Loki can (or should) come back/be forgiven/whatever you want to call being not totally evil and they get all disdainful on Redemption!Loki fans for being woobie-fiers and i'm like 'Hello, were we watching the same films? That was the most woobie face I HAVE EVER SEEN when he fell. So don't even tell me that he wouldn't be conflicted in the right circumstances."

pfft. People underestimate the amount of change to his character that would happen with Frigga caring about him, and no one can convince me of that either. One could possibly read her at worst as ambivalent, but no way does she hate or dislike him. And that changes him a lot.

The article's from the LA Times: http://t.co/Hiw3kkO6 like I mention above the interview was during the press junket for the film's release and so it's not really new, but it does fit in with current projects SO well. :)

I honestly don't care what their opinions about the character are - and yes there ARE a lot of fluffy 14 year olds (literally or mentally) who do make him into a sceptre-weilding My Little Pony. It's the behaviour of some of the 'big name fans' who find it necessary to rip shit out of anyone whose opinion disagrees with theirs. That's why I'm so tempted to post that quote!
