lizardbeth: (Helo-Sharon fanfic)

I have questions!

hrm. so I have this porny ficlet (Summoning, ths Sam/Lee, Dark Magic AU). I wrote it for the sexytiems of it, and now it's kind of blossoming into this full story in my brain. however, the ficlet is basically the climax (hee, climax. Literally AND um, literarily.) all the rest of the story would be the set up and resolution after that ficlet, and feature a third party (Kara). SO. Wise flist:

Do I leave the ficlet as is, write a prequel and a sequel and then make them into a short trilogy?
Do I write one story incorporting the ficlet again?
Do I write the story and skim over the ficlet, referencing it in notes someplace?

What say you?

Do you think it can be written so the prequel/sequel can be read on their own? If they can, then I would say make it into a short trilogy.

hm, I suppose that is the real question isn't it? I think the first definitely can stand on its own, but I'll have to think if I have enough story for the sequel.

Thanks! :D

Yes! :D

Oh, we're supposed to choose? The idea of one story incorporating the ficlet would be my vote. Every story needs a climax.

I just had a bingo drabble morph into a longer idea. As I've worked on the longer story, the drabble has gotten chopped up into pieces so I still have all of the sentences but they're no longer together, if that makes sense.

YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PICK ALL THE ABOVE! :P

heh, Drabble Expansion! I can see that for some of mine, too - sometimes for drabbles you have to take out so much it's PAINFUL.

But yeah, there's the no question it's all one big story - I guess I'm just chickening out on the potential epic!

I'm kind of leaning toward a trilogy...

Advantage of a trilogy is LESS EPIC.

I think.

maybe.

have you read poe's short "the facts in the case of m. valdemar"? it'll take just half an hour--it's SO worth it--and i got the exact same thrill of horror, but MORE, reading this ficlet, because it could go on and on and what is happening to valdemar's body is what's happening to lee's soul and....
sorry. i am so excited you want to write more of this. are you imagining--if you wrote a trilogy--one of those things where you begin with what you have already written and show how you got from halcyon to here in a single prequel, spend a central remix (if that's the word that i want) viewing the same events from another (perhaps unreliable) POV, and then expand on the consequences in a sequel? because i could see that being non-epic but totally awesome.
in my imagination, leoben is the necromancer who helped lee make his deal with the cylon devil (who should totally have his own song, a la futurama). the possibilities for kara in this maybe-verse are just so endlessly twisted. best luck finding your way to writing it!

hee, no, I don't think I've read it.. But thanks for the suggestion!

My plan (such as it is) was the prequel would be how they got into this mess, and show a bit more of the actual love story. The middle is well, this, basically, how it all goes to hell. And the story afterward is Kara comes and cleans it up.

But no, Lee is the necromancer. (Law=wizardry, see. lol) And in desperation and grief he dabbles in THE DARK ARTS to bring Sam back, not realizing the cost, of course.

this is why you are brllnt; law as arts that can become dark = yessss. o, lee. always selling his soul for the wrong things and reasons--i was rewatching w spouse, and he was like, "does lee ever stop giving himself completely to people and causes that utterly frak him over?" and i said, "uhhhh... no. not really. there's just more or less foreknowledge of the misery." but i kind of like that about him, because he's earnest sometimes and cynical sometimes and it's all very real (which i didn't see the first time around), that quest to find the thing to give yourself to. eric hoffer would be twistedly proud.
i want to read this, whatever it is, that you write. because it's gonna be great. i don't leave a lot of feedback because my thoughts are really random and disarranged usually, but what you write maketh my heart to be glad (and sad, and so on; your bsg novels got me thru detox, and that's saying something), so again. best!
