Day 1 of Fabulous Females -- Sam Carter Edition
Okay, so this is the most inconveniently timed meme/event thingy ever, but since I didn't want to let it pass with NADA, I um raided stargate-caps and I have a little appreciation of Sam Carter, Day 1 for

For Day one, this is a picspam of Sam from the pilot episode, which really does a fantastic synopsis/base for the character Sam becomes as the show continues. Sam is not the first female officer in a tv show, and not even the first in a long-running tv show (Major Houlihan of MASH is before her, to name one I can think of) but she's certainly high on the list. I was a little too old when I started watching to be inspired, but still I consider Sam one of the backbone female characters of my formative years nonetheless.
Also I have at least one margarita in me. Just FYI.
This is how we first see her -- calm, competent, high-achieving, a little insecure (it's here she gives her speech about having her reproductive organs on the inside, which while obviously clunky and wince-worthy, at least sets up a woman who isn't going to just sit there and take it when O'Neill's being an ass.

This is Scientist Sam -- full of wonder and curiosity at the opening of the gate.

Here is adorable, smiley Sam.

Sam meeting her intellectual equal with whom she'll be BFFs.

Sam as 2IC. Military, competent Sam who can shoot a gun and lay explosives with the best of them. And her amazing ability to wear any headgear.

And her ability to overcome any hairstyle and defend the planet anyway.

So there's a trip through memory lane of a Wee Amanda Tapping. :)

I'm so glad someone who can do Sam justice grabbed her for that event - I thought about it but I'm avoiding fannish comitments right now.
SAM! I love her wonder at first seeing the 'gate and her meeting Daniel ('I knew I'd like you') and how Teal'c hands her his staff weapon when they step back through and, god help me, I love the reproductive organs speech.
