Just noticed on my flist... It is hilarious that the Daily Snitch, HP news comm, has nothing on the Sockpuppet Saga. Not that I'd want to go near it with a ten-foot-pole if I were them either, but still, the biggest damn piece of news to hit HP fandom in, oh, at least a month, and there's nothing about it.

So much for reporting fandom news. snerk!

And OMG, speaking of hilarious -- there are some awesome icons out there about it. Little animated ones and cartoons of little sockpuppets. So so funny.

LOL! awesome. I need to learn to do one.

So far, I have yet to see an animated one that's *not* funny. There's one I saw, "the secret diary of MsScribe", little text animations: "Day 1: Make sockpuppet. Still not BNF. Day 2: Make sockpuppet...", etc. It keeps going. Cracks me up just thinking about it.

You're on ingrid_m list right? I know she's been invovled in it. Same thing. That woman who made a whole flock of false identities (sockpuppets) to propel herself into the upper-tier of Harry Potter fandom. Fascinating story of how one single-minded, narcisstic individual managed to pull the wool over almost everybody's eyes for four years. But she also made enemies and those enemies eventually gathered and recently published proof that she was a liar and a fraud.

And now there is much wailing and gnashing of teeth (and backstabbing and covering of behinds) among her "friends" and much satisfaction among her enemies.

Every fandom has people who pretend things to make themselves important, but this chick did it in such a big and methodical way, plus got away with it for so long and involved so many people in a very large fandom (HP), that it's just huge.

Basically, it's dirty politics, with socks!
