Fandom March madness!
Yay! It's FANDOM MARCH MADNESS time! GO FORTH AND VOTE . It's the preliminaries which means you can vote for your favorite characters and try to get them into the first round.
It's interesting to look how the votes are falling out in general. You can see both BSG's awesomeness and the root cause of some of its fandom problems when you see how widely the favorites are distributed (Kara's the definite fave, but there's pretty widespread representation at the next level, which not all ensemble shows have). Merlin and Firefly have similar distributions.
Most of the time the lead character is also the favorite, but not always -- in Smallville Clark is tied with freakin' Jason Teague (whose only claim to anything is because he was played by Jensen Ackles) and in fourth place in his own show. I haven't watched Chuck lately so I have no idea what Devon has done to deserve being more popular than both Sarah and Casey, hopefully more than just taking his shirt off a lot.
The psychotic yet funny badass is popular, if not always a winner: see Casey, Sark, Spike, Damon...
You can see how SGA has declined (or at least they haven't heard yet -it's early still), since Daniel is clinging to a lead over Rodney in the SG1/SGA poll.
I'm not sure if the fact that Aeryn is so much more the favorite than everyone in Farscape means anything beyond that she's awesome. Which she is, but that's true of a lot of shows where the minor characters still get SOME love. Even John's a pretty distant second and everyone else is not even on the same page. Maybe Farscape did such a good job of making "aliens" alien that it's harder for the general fan to empathize with them and be a favorite?
And sometimes I have to wonder about people: there are about 20 characters for LOST in the list and yet someone picked Ilana as their favorite. Now, I like her fine, but she's barely spoken ten lines and just joined the show -- and she's someone's FAVORITE? WHUT? SRSLY?

Also if it's Dean vs Barney again in the finals I will throw things. COME ON, FANDOM, PROVE ME WRONG.

I was actually one of the people who voted for Awesome over Chuck but that's because he's the only character I've consistently loved in every episode I've seen.
I had a feeling there'd be absolutely no competition for Kara, Mal, and Aeryn. Still voted for Zoe, though:) And I'm not surprised that Merlin is coming down to Arthur vs. Merlin but personally, I voted for Gwen:)

And I would pick SO many characters over Ilana if I had to choose someone besides Juliet and I don't dislike her or anything. (okay, I'd pick her over Nikki and Paolo).. Maybe like your vote for Awesome, she hasn't done anything yet to piss that fan off. *g*

Either that or it's someone who doesn't watch the show and they just liked her name the best (I think I did that for some of the comedy votes :D)
Merlin...once you get past the cheese factor (and there is a lot of it :D)...is actually very enjoyable, especially if you stay in your own little corner of the fandom (like I do by staying near the Arthur/Gwen, Gwen/Morgana people).

Kara will no doubt move into the next round, so take that as your revenge. If people are taking it too seriously, that's their problem. It's just a fun stupid poll with lots of gifs.
