People doin' Yuletide WRONG

So [livejournal.com profile] yuletide_admin (or Home/archive) is the annual ficathon/fest for rare, obscure and dead fandoms.

And every year someone tries to nominate some wildly NON-OBSCURE fandom, and it cracks me up every time.

Last year someone tried to nominate High School Musical for Yuletide. I smacked it down.
(Seventeen THOUSAND fics at the Pit. Even if 90% magically don't count because they're crap, that's STILL more fic than some ineligible fandoms have.)

Anyway, this year's funny? Lotrips

*dies*

(I realize it's deader than it used to be but COME ON.)

ETA: Aaaaaand NOW we have Merlin added! Because there aren't a gazillion fics for that fandom or anything...

I am WAITING for someone to add Twilight. or Harry Potter.

This looks like so much fun! Except, there's no information about it on the community you linked to? Do I have to go to the admin group for that, or somewhere else, or what?

ah, yes, I forget that it's the chatter group now. They moved the main admin group to [livejournal.com profile] yuletide_admin. The main site and archive is yuletidetreasure.org (http://yuletidetreasure.org).

IT IS SO MUCH FUN!!!
(oops - url!fail.)

Here, this is a better Yuletide for Dummies intro. Then if you need more, you can look at the FAQ at the main site.

I SO want to do Yuletide and I so can't.

*is tempted*

I am the last person to tempt you into ficathons which you know you shouldn't do.

*polishes halo* :D

*whimpers*

How are you seeing that people are nominating these crazy popular fandoms?

*is so tempted to nominate just in case of failure to resist*

If you go to the nominations page (which, I'm not saying you should, because it might SUCK YOU IN *g*), you can pull one of the drop-down menus and look. Whenever someone nominates a "new" fandom it gets added to the list. The script blocks most ineligible nominations, but if people spell or format it wrong they can creep in anyway.

I think it's fun to look for them and lower the banhammer.

dammit, if I nominate a fandom I have to sign up to write, right?

There's one I wanted in there for a few years but I don't write.

you can technically nominate a fandom without writing. The nominations are the first step, narrowing down all the possibilities and getting rid of ineligible fandoms, and then people request stories from the list of nominated fandoms. It's possible someone could see your nominated fandom and request a fic for it, even if they didn't nominate it.

But no, you can't request a particular story, without offering to write in return.

What fandom, out of curiosity?
