The contagious disease of present tense

Bah, after writing that longish thing in present tense, I keep screwing up the tenses in a past-tense fic. I'll get about four paragraphs and realize I'm doing it all in present. Again. *head desk*

Yeah. That's why I sometimes actually prod people for betas. (or just wait a week and re-read for the loose tenses)

Oh, I hate that! It's always so hard when you transitions back to the past tense. Funny, but I don't have the problem the other way around. Maybe it's because I sort of naturally change over to the present, when I'm in the mood, but when I change back to the past, I have to force it?

yeah, EXACTLY. Somehow I can write a zillion pages of past tense interspersed with present-tense flashbacks without a problem, but having made that mental switchover, it's hard to switch back. Weird. And annoying.
