YULETIDE!!

oh [livejournal.com profile] yuletide....

I have to admit a part of my fun this year and last has been playing whack-a-mole and going around researching the fic strength of various fandoms. Because I am a research geek at heart. (And since Babylon 5 is still banninated, I really have no compunction about trying to bounce fandoms that are bigger and more active, even if I like them).

But c'mon people, WICKED? On what planet is fic for it rare or the fandom obscure? Or "Criminal Minds"? Seriously, do people even bother to look if these fandoms exist? Last year I crushed High School Musical -- you might have heard of it. Just because 99.9% of the fic is crap doesn't mean there's no fandom. I'm sort of surprised no one tried to sneak in Twilight this year.

And I seriously wonder how many of these gazillion fandoms people are actually going to request fic in? I mean, it's one thing to want more fic in some particular source material (because we'd all like to READ fic that expands our favorite series), and quite another to come up with any kind of prompt....

*snicker* Oh, that's kind of a fun hobby. Hee!

yep, it's fun. I'm sure elyn's really sick of hearing from me *g* but a some should never have been nominated in the first place. And some of these fandoms should be running their own fests, not piggy-backing yuletide.

She might be glad there's someone doing legwork so she doesn't have to? I wish Highlander were eligible, but there's a HUGE archive, so, yeah, not so much going to happen.

Running a fic exchange can be a lot of fun. More fandoms should do it!

People are, in fact, both stupid and crazy.

You know, one of the things that put me off yuletide was the fact that there were so many fandoms (though if I remember right My Little Pony was listed, haha) and I was like "huh? what?" And scared to death I'd get one that I completely messed up. :(

yeh, My Little Pony and Care Bears and the Mac/PC commercials, and many many more serious things.

When you sign up you request three fandoms and then list which ones you want to write for, so it's all up to you which ones you think you can write. Heck, 90% of the anime on there I've never even HEARD of, not to mention read, so I don't sign up for them. Even something like Deadwood which I've seen and loved, I don't volunteer to write for, because I don't feel like I could do it justice. But it is a fun way to try something new, or something that maybe scares you to write, or conversely, a way to get someone to write THAT missing scene from a book you love...

There is a fandom not on the list but no one has every heard of it. It has about 6 stories on ff.net. Alas.

oh? What is it? I lost my B5 nom, so I have an extra slot if you think someone might write for it...
