'How can I help you?"
So yesterday, I was in our local drugstore (carries shampoo and a bit of food and batteries and has a pharmacy for prescription medication- it's a place I go for small stuff like aspirin and greeting cards and stuff). It was a big chain that got taken over by an even bigger chain about a year ago. Apparently they are under rules to be EXTRA friendly to customers, because yesterday? It was so friendly and helpful, it was creepy.
I walk in and immediately there is a pharamacist-looking person in a white coat who asks me if I've used their pharmacy. I laugh, "oh yes, all the time." "Great. Is there anything I can help you with today?"
"uh, no, thanks." (I was on a mission for two items - foamy handsoap for the short person and those little watch batteries for one of his toys. I know where all these things are, and they're on opposite sides of the store).
So I go toward the far corner for the soap. On the way, two people in drugstore shirts stop me and ask if I'm find everything and if I need help. "No, thanks, I know where it is." I grab my soap and then head toward the middle aisle - to go toward the front where the batteries are.
In the middle, there's a group of about six manager trainee types, all wearing suits. AS ONE, they turn to me, and three of them ask if I need help.
THEY WERE POD PEOPLE, I swear. Well, okay, it was merely excessive customer service, but STILL! FREAKY.
Luckily, today I went back for something else, and things were back to normal. Apparently the alien/demon invasion has been put off for another day.
And holy mackerel, Yuletide has over 1100 members! I'm glad to see that despite a few toads showing that yes, there are bad people everywhere - even in fandom - the exchange itself is still a happy thing made of sharing and glee for even more people.
I'm rather amused that despite the influx of about 400 people since I signed up, the numbers of requests and offers in my categories have remained fairly static. People are spreading out among all the choices. I am still the only offeror on something and there is just no WAY that's going to match since I could offer to write only one character (not that I hate the others, but that was the only way to limit my offer to the part I actually know). But one of my requests is probably in the same boat, so at least it all balances.
I started my
sg_rarepairings fic, since it has an actual deadline and requester and I don't wanna default.

I believe that the answer is just "not bad at all" but "yes, more porn, please." :)

Good thing you posted the reminder - made me get off my lazy butt and actually start what I plotted a week ago.

If it happens again you'll have to let us know. It could be a sign that the invasion is upon us.
